Right folks my steering column seems to be the culprit when it comes to excessive play in the steering wheel and knocking noises when going over rougher ground. I know its the column area as when I push the top of the steering wheel and pull the bottom of the whell (brace the wheel) the knocking does not happen. The steering is very vague also.

Basically has anyone had any similar issues with these columns and is there a bearing to blame (although the play seems to be from the middle where the shafts overlap?)

Hopefully this is an easy fix or an easy replacement!

The best thing to do is take off the lower dash panel and then check for play in the column first. It's hard to say where the problem is because the polo steering setup isn't the best on a good day

I have looked and the play is visible where the shaft overlaps.
