As the title says, my mk2f has been squealing at low revs when cold. I just replaced cam belt and alternator belt. The noise always goes away once the engine has warmed up. Could it be one of the belts are too tight? Or something else I'm missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

i'd say that too, out side posibility its the alt bearings but belt is a good place to start. look to see if its missing teeth as it might be slipping

yeah nip up the alt belt a little more , or if its a really cheap n nasty one replace it with a good brand and tension it right

I just replaced it so hopefully it won't be ruined/missing teeth. I'll have a look and see if it's too tight/loose. Thanks everyone for your help :)

Also there were no squeaks before I replaced the belts so I don't think it would be alt bearings

i would say the belt is not tight enough, thats going off its only happen when you replaced the belt

Is it possible that it's starting to "wear on" and has stretched slightly and become loose?

yeah i would say its slightly worn, you might aswell get a new one or just tighten the belt.

Thanks a lot for all your advice guys. I'm planning on tightening the belt tomorrow and seeing what happens. If it still squeals then I'll probably just replace it

I just tightened the belt and now the squeal is gone! Thanks for all your help guys!
