How easy/hard is it for a mechanical noob to fit lowering kit?

Featured Replies

I have bought a brand new set of 80/80 shocks and springs kit for my mk2f breadvan. I'm just wondering how difficult it would be to fit them myself? I am trained in painting cars but haven't got a clue about the mechanics side.... I probably have most of the tools I need and I've heard the rears are much easier than the fronts, maybe I could do the rears and get pay someone else to fit the fronts? Someone said they would fit the fronts and rears for me for 60 pounds which does seem like a fair price but I'm quite skint and if I could save some cash I wouldn't mind putting a few hours in myself if it's not too hard. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

Thanks.

right shadaboot27, i also have to mk2f hatchback with 80mm on front and rear,

fronts - for starters there a bit of a pain because the whole strut has to come out of course but sometimes everything is seized, but with the right tools and the help they can be done with no hassle.

rears - there easy there just 2 nuts and 1 bolt and can be done within mins

i know you don't have much money and i would like to help with the goodness of my heart, i live in Hertfordshire and i don't live to far from you.

if you want we can spend a day together and get them done,

Also willing to help out ?

look at this you have a team at you disposal :D

Do you think you could do 29th? As 30th may not be good for me either... And yeah I have a massive driveway and double garage that we could do it in.

I'm working all day but if mazralou is free that day ill book off and come up

Ah no I wouldn't expect you to book time off work to help me.. I'm free in the week and on weekends as I work from home, it woulndt be that much of a problem to do it 30th but i dunno, is there a day that would suit everyone?

its cool idm all i will do is swap the saturday with someone else at work but mazralou has to be free aswell

I can not book any time off this weekend but might be able to book a day of Thursday ?

i can't do weekdays :tear: what about weekend after springfest ?

  • Author

Yeah I could do that, there is no rush really. I just don't want to cause you guys too much hassle really, and again i really appreciate you wanting to help me but you don't have to drive really far and spend ages helping me all for nothing...
