LITTLE UPDATE:::::

-I'm currently running on some nice forged alloys that my neighbour has lent me until I get tires for my BBS alloys. I like the silver on silver and they're not too bad to look at!

Car is going in on Thursday to sort out the central locking and I'm going to discuss exhuast backbox and fitment.

After all that has been paid for I'm gonna do some saving for an induction kit to add ABIT more sound.

Any ideas or comments, please join in and get involved!

thanks a lot guys and girls!!!

Those wheels are VW Le Castellets, would your neighbour want to sell them?

I'd agree with previous comments and just remove a box from the exhaust. There should be a centre box between the cat and back box. Replace that with a bit of pipe and that will make a better noise than putting that great big Max Power thing on. And it will look neater too.

I think he is interested in selling them yes but not for a few weeks I don't think!

Yeah I was planning on doing as I heard it does make it sound decent.

Thanks a lot man!

Hi here guys, nothing done today apart from some paint touchup! Thought id take the time to take some pictures of how she's looking to keep you all interested!

I took a look at the air filter which obviously the owner hasn't changed so a new induction kit is in need.

When I'm fitting that I'm interested in what the big hole in the air box is for and what I do with it when I take the air box out, as a cone filter will be in place and that doesn't connect to the whole or anything.

If anyone has info it would be appreciated!

Enjoy!!

it wouldnt be illeagal in the uk however you might run the risk of failing emmissions in the m.o.t but if you just run a staight through without the middle box as long as you have a decent CAT thats not haggard should be sound. i was on a budget and had a straight through cherry bomb on my 6n. had no problems.

Could you tell me how loud it was with the box removed? As I've got a backbox also but only a large one and I'm wondering if just replacing the box would give enough sound to not need the backbox.

Thanks a lot man!

Gave it a clean and doesn't look too bad, it's on it's way!

if you take off the middle box and leave your stock one on there it should in thoery sound pretty nice but its personal opinion realy if its not loud enough just try as few things out untill your happy with it. bear in mind if you are going for an induction kit also it will effect the sound aswell, car is looking fresh though nice start.

Yeah man it's going in tomorrow for Central locking haha and I'm gonna chat about the straight pipe and see when he can do it, then In the next month or so the induction kit will be bought. Running smooth at the moment and looking forward to getting some stretch on my black Bbs alloys and then putting them on instead of these forged alloys.

Thanks a lot man, looking forward to making it as good as I can!

Thanks for your help aswell bud:)

For the induction, remove the air box, the cone filter sits on the top of the throttle body just above the engine. The breather pipe connects to a small hole at the bottom of the filter and then just feed your air hoses in. Dead simple mate!

I'd recommend the ramair induction kit for it. Dirt cheap to buy (40 quid for the whole set up) and it sounds beautiful! Hope this helps dude

Thanks a lot bro, and yeah ram air is what I'm gonna get I think, sometime this month hopefully!

Thanks for the advice mate:)

Hoping not to thread jack but where is the middle box? Is this the same in a 6n?

  • Author

That's fine pal, from what I've heard the middle box is Inbetween the cat and backbox.

I'm sure it's similar in all polos.

Took the car to the garage to enquire about straight pipe and he said it may result in mot failure but I'm getting it done soon by some vw specialist in my town.

Hope this helped:)

Ahh ok, wouldn't wanna risk it. Thanks mate.

So ordering this Tuesday so I can hear ABIT more roar.

Will let you know what it's like as soon as I fit it but it's cheap and decent I've heard.

Next mod after that will be coilovers:)

Thanks a lot guys

As I'm getting that induction kit around Wednesday/Thursday I thought it would be fun to test out the 'airbox mods' that are pretty common. So I smoothed out my air box (slightly) and drilled 8 medium sized holes on the side away from my engine, underneath the filter. Sound improvement is great, good roar and I'm happy with it!

Anyone want info on It then just comment and I will talk you through it:) 3minute mod which put a big smile on my face!

Cheers guys

Haha really made a difference? Thought it was all rubbish. Might give it a go in addition to my majorly expensive induction kit that consists of an ebay universal cone attached to the standard box... Lol.

  • Author

Not in performance I wouldn't say haha but you hit those high revs and you can feel it;)

I did 8 pretty decent (50p) sized holes:)

Hahahha yeah I've just ordered my ram air induction kit;)

Make sure you drill the holes on the far side away from the engine and below the panel filter line that goes around the box. Also try smooth out the inside and pull out the Hoover looking thing that goes into it:)))

Worth a try while I save up for something decent. Cant wait until you get yours, it might persuade me! I'm hoping for a video with sound! Lol.

  • Author

Yeah man do it! When I install it Wednesday I will take a pic of the airbox so you can see what I did:) yeah man I've heard good things about the ramair so I will let you know what it's like with video etc:)) but I guess I have to do that over YouTube or something do I??

Errr.. I'm not sure, can you upload videos to here? You don't really see many.

  • Author

Just had a look and it looks like you can:) so I will do that when I get it fitted!

I will probs put a photo up tomorrow of the airbox for you as a reference too:) maybe even a little video of it hitting high revs;)

Haha ok thanks, looking forward to it! :)
