hi i am new here and just like to say hello , i have just bought a mk2 polo j reg don't know much about them got it from a friend because wipers would not turn off, so he took switch off cleaned it put it back on, no change ,so then he took the wiper motor apart and took one of the bushes out which burnt some wire , now i have bought second hand wiper motor tried it but it keeps blowing the fuse , i think if i can get it all working as it should, it will be a good little car as it is solid , just needs a new coat of paint , which i will do

From how you describe this problem, it sounds as if there is a short circuit inside your replacement motor.

You can easily check if the fault is in the motor or the wiring - Just disconnect the wiper motor plug and see if the fuse still blows - If it does, then the fault is in the wiring.

If the fault proves to be in the replacement motor, I would suggest that, first of all, you try to get it exchanged or obtain a refund from the people who supplied it.

These motors are repairable, but due to the small size, tend to be a bit fiddly - You may also have problems in obtaining new parts.

I'm a little concerned about this burnt wire when the brushes (there is supposed to be an 'R' in there, by the way) - Was this wire inside the old motor, or external to it?

thanks for your reply caretakerplus yes i have tried with motor disconnected and she still blows the 8a fuse, as soon as you switch the stalk on ,i have tried a meter on plug connection , to see if wires are earthing out , there seems to be 3 which are showing to be earthed , don't know if this is right as i do not have a manual yet , if your looking at the plug with clip facing up from left side number 1 earthing to boby 2 nothing 3 nothing 4 earthing to body 5 earthing to body

will post a picture of mk2 at some point i think i will keep the colour the same la5t blue

take your ignition cowling off and see if the wires have been cut up. its possble the car went on a keyless ride in its past

all fixed now, wipers are working ,engine run perfect ,just need an oil change, now what do i do , i could put it on the road as its mot'd till sep or maybe spray it, or flog it , can't make up my mind
