strongly advise to cut the rubber if you want to save it

Yes good advice at least with cutting it you cut the chance of cracking the screen by half.

Does anyone know where to get a new screen? And how much are they? Because if I'm going to buy a new seal I may as well just put a bit of extra money in a get a whole new screen.

£50 for clear or £60 for green at a local windscreen place , no longer avail from vw

Yeah I used to work in body shops too so I'll hopefully be able to do a good job of it. Are you going to use a spray gun or just spray cans? I'm planning on using professional grade spray cans and trying to blend it into the original paint about half way up the windscreen pillars.

Right okay, my roof is mint so I don't really want to paint it. Do you have all the gear then? Like air compressor and spray gun and stuff? Do you do odd jobs for people? I have some other rust spot I need fixing, if I was to do all the filler work and primer recon you could paint it for me? And obviously I'd pay you? I just really can't afford body shop prices and I'd hate to pay loads of money for something I could do myself, I really wish I had all the gear then I'd be sorted.

Okay fair enough mate, Thanks anyway! I have got some pretty good results with spray cans before so I'll just go ahead with that, I've just never tried to do a blow in with cans, or even a spray gun for that matter but we will see how it goes! Anything will look better than the rust spots to be honest!

Yes, that's what I'll be using, I've never done it before but I think its pretty straight forward. Do you know if The Alpine White on our cars is a 2 in 1 paint? Or does it require separate lacquer?

Use a big hammer mate normally sorts it :)

from new it was direct gloss ..so shiney straight from the gun with no clear coat

Hmm, I'm not sure if you can do blow in's with 2 in 1 paint.

yeah mate you can , do it in basecoat if you prefer

So even if the original paint is "2 in 1" I can still do a blow in (spot repair) with base coat and then use lacquer to cover it?

yes you can use basecoat and clear like a normal modern car

or just use the direct gloss ...polish the surrounding paint and just disolve the edge with thinners like you would clear coat , just going up the pillars shouldnt be a problem as its so small

welded the pillar btw 0.65mm metal from the factory lol

been soaking the scab in bilt hamber deox gel and its cleaned it up well , just needed a couple of blobs of weld

no pics , but the screen seal from ebay seems good quality , screen went in first time and the rubber is nice and flexible with no puckering in the corners etc
