Okay so I bought my polo already lowered and at a guess I would say it's running 60/60 I will check when my spring clamps arrive. The problem is I enjoy being able to get over speed bumps without scrape, so I was wondering if I could get away with standard spring up front and 60 mm at the back. otherwise I'm looking at 40/40, Unless anyone knows a way I can gain a bit of height that's not to drastic. Thanks in advance.

Maybe it's your exhaust is too low not your car? :)

No such thing as too low.....

Joking aside, standard springs up front with a 60mm drop at the back would give you silly looking reverse rake.

40/40 is a nice sensible drop, but I'm running 60/60 on my Polo and don't have any problems at all.

Check your exhaust as Citrus suggests, if it is hanging low that is a much easier and cheaper thing so sort than changing all your suspension.

I figured it would look a bit silly but there wouldn't be any mechanical issues? Plus the rides not that great and I can't really afford coillovers. I had a look the other day at the exhaust and if I were to solid mount the rear I could probably gain an inch but it still catching at the front.

My exhaust was catching speed pumps with weight in the car at standard ride height, turns out a few of the rubber doughnut ring clip things had snapped! i know that doesnt fix your ride height issue though

I have 40/40 0n my breadvan on 13" and it catches on speed bumps even when I crawl over them but the section on the exhaust it catches is the back part last section of exhaust so will try and unbolt the clamp on the exhaust and try and twist it higher as I have been advised on here , worth a try? as I do plan on going lower this summer .. maybe 60/40 and adjust the rear to 50 .

I've got my mk2f coupe lowered about 80mm all around with 14" p slots on and my exhaust used to scrap on everything so I modified the exhaust so it tucks up higher and now I only scrap on really high speed bumps

When you say modified what did you do ?

The exhaust hangs shockingly low standard, people have gone a lot more than 40mm or 60mm lowering without demolishing the exhaust

How can you ask what height would be best not to scrape? each car differs, if yours scrapes now and you don't want it to just raise it as much as you can take which isn't up to us, or change the exhaust for one that sits higher

This is what happened to my exhaust:

So I decided to find an exhaust that didn't have such a large diameter and hopefully had some tapered edges. I found this at a local motor factors and it worked a treat:

This made a huge difference when going over speed bumps. A lot less scraping but when it did scrape it slid over very easily.

I recommend checking your rear hanger as well. The bracket on the car body can become weak and the two hooks can start to hang low. I welded a rod in between the two hooks to stop them from sagging. This had my back box tucked up tight and out of the way. However it still wore out on speed bumps and bumpy roads so the only real solution was to re-skin it every so often.

Mine scrapes if I go slowly... So I just go faster :)

I scrape my mid section on cambered roads, no speedbumps required, and my backbox never touches the floor ever, if your exhaust scrapes you're doing it wrong and it hangs too low

Well thanks for that Jordon. Clearly the best way to modify a polo is with a powerflow exhaust otherwise you're doing it wrong.

Would the smaller dia mid box not affect and upset the running of the car ?

The internal diameter will be the same so it should have no effect on the running.

Do you know what that center section is off of dougstar21?

I have no idea. It was a pattern part from a motor factors.

From the pictures I have it looks like a Walker exhaust ( http://www.walkercatalogue.eu/) so you just have to find someone who stocks them. I did buy that exhaust about 10 years ago!

I have no idea how low I am, but I smacked my exhaust on a speedbump today. It happens. There is now 'doing it wrong' and that's just a pretentious "I'm better than you" attitude.

You've got the title of the post wrong mate. It should be "my polo is too high" or "my polo isn't low enough". Can never have too much lows fella!
