need a new daily / project

Featured Replies

Hi all i currently have a 1.0 mk2f polo coupe, but I am going to be changing the engine to a 1.3 aav turbo soon, I still have some parts to get, but when I come to swap the engine I want to take the car off the road and do all the body work and everything else at the same time, so I could do with another car while I do this, so what car would be best, I want it to be the next project after I've got the coupe is done, I was thinking of getting a mk2 golf maybe but I'm not to sure, so could do with some help on what would be a good project

Many thanks jay

A mk2 golf is a good step up from the polo, much nicer to drive

Agreed mk2 golf is a huge step up completely different to the polo much comfier just a lot nicer to drive all round

I tend to find mk2 golfs very bland to drive compared to the polo, there's just no feel to them.

Sciroccos are a better step up from a polo.

I think I'm going to go for a golf will be a good project for after the polo is done,

I found the opposite in all the mk2s I've owned tbh, compared to the Polo, things like understeer don't happen quite as often and you get a lot more response through the steering wheel (thanks to the modern wonders of wishbone suspension  ), in my old Polos it always just felt like the steering wheel was juggling about in my hands and only really mimicking the sensation of feedback from the wheels. They generally feel a lot more like you are in control of what's happening whereas in the Polo it feels a lot more like your just holding onto wherever the hell it wants to take you

I'd rather an old b2 Passat :D

Edit- with the 5pot of course

I was thinking about a passat or something a bit different but I'm still undecided because I really want to build a 1.8 20vt mk2 golf

That's the best bit! They tell you what's going of and you deal with it. You plan ahead because the car has limitations to work within and it puts some skill and enjoyment into driving rather than just sitting around holding a steering wheel like in a modern eurobox.
