Backbox or middle box = which to remove?

Featured Replies

Hey guys I've heard good stuff about straight piping etc.

Wondering if it's best to straight pipe the backbox or the middle box, mainly for sound. I know there's a lot of stuff about loss of pressure etc that's okay I just want a nicer tone.

Hope you guys can help:)

Chances are its gonna be quite loud if you straight pipe the back box, not sure what difference a straight in the middle would do as iv never tried it... Take the back box off and see how loud it is if its too loud just cut mid out?

Might stick to just the middle and if not loud enough then do backbox aswell, I'm sure the back pressure will be shocking though hahaha;)

Probably problem With that is with no boxes at all it will be ridiculously loud, leave the center box and straight pipe the back

Mid box delete be best, no back box may sound a bit over the top

Yeah I think I'm gonna straight pipe the middle out, I've heard it's the best way to go

I have standard manifold and cat on mine but after that iv got 2" stainless steel pipe no middle box with a sportex back box with a 2" outword rolled exit and my mk2f sounds amazing you can only go to a maximum of 2" pipe on the mk2f before you loose back pressure. My setup is loude but is a good loude and it passes mot with no advisory. Had a nice price tag though £480 but it is a complete custom system made to be tucked up to the body as close as possible without rattleing

Could you remember how it sounded with just the mid box out mate?

with the standard exhaust or with my ss exhaust?

Just standard one mate.

i never removed the center box on the standard exhaust mate only done it on my ss one. If its any help a mate of mine has a 6n with no center box and its got a nice grumble but gets quieter as the revs increase

Oh thanks man, yeah I have an induction kit that gets louder the higher the rev so actually that might even it out haha!

I have a power flow cat back with no center silencer, sounds very very nice at the top rev range, very raspy and pops. But this encourages me to rev the arse out it. lol..
