6N2 Built Thread

Featured Replies

This is a built thread because I had already got the car looking the way I wanted it and then put it back to standard. I still had all the photos on my old phone so I thought I should put them up here and show you how I built my Polo 6n2 in the time that I owned it.

In April 2009, I bought my first ever car which was a 6n2 5 door 1.4 8v (60bhp)

In the 4 years that I owned it, I made it look the way I wanted it to and last year I put it back to its original state, with a few exceptions, I left a few small things on there.

This is pic heavy. Apologies for the bad quality pics, they were taken with an iphone 3GS.

When I first got the car, it was completely standard, I don’t have a pic of the car standard, but as you can all imagine, it looked like this (but with the star type wheels, I forgot what they are called)

The first thing I did was get a Clifford G5 Alarm system fitted with Tilt sensors, dual zone proximity sensors, glass tamper sensors and remote boot pop.

The main reason I wanted it was for remote locking, but thought I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone and put a top alarm system on it too.

So the next thing I did was order some wheels. I looked for a long time until I found the perfect set of BBS RM’s 15x7 with one inch dishes all round, they came with gold and silver bolts on the dishes.

Then I ordered some tyres – Toyo Proxes and went to get them fitted on to the wheels and put on the car

This is what it looked like after all the wheels were put on:

At this point, it needed to go very low, I hated that arch gap.

So I contacted PhilJ on this site and got some springs and shocks from him (60/40)

Then fitted the springs and shocks,

IMG_0164.jpg

but the back was sitting too low at that point and was rubbing quite a lot.

This is what it looked like with the car lowered on the new wheels

The next day I raised the rear suspension a bit more because it was too low.

Then I changed the interior rear view mirror with one from a 6n so it didn’t stand out as much and blended in a bit more

This is what the mirror looked like before:

This is what the mirror looked like after:

IMG_0291.jpg

it’s a small but subtle change.

Then I got some GTI Headlights:

IMG_0292.jpg

Fitting the lights - Bumper off, then I had to cut some of the slam panel.

IMG_0295.jpg

IMG_0297-1.jpg

and this is what they looked like when fitted

IMG_0299.jpg

I also upgraded the standard 4300k bulbs with 6000k bulbs and it looked so much better.

Then I got a GTI Splitter:

IMG_0346.jpg

I wanted to have it colour coded, so I took it to the body shop to be resprayed.

Test fitting the splitter:

You can also see how good the GTI headlights look in that pic

This is what the splitter looked like after it was colour coded and fitted.

IMG_0402.jpg

Then I wanted to lower my door pins

Then I bought some MK3 Golf VR6 Leather seats

Then I found a standard 6n2 the same colour as mine in a car park and took this photo:

IMG_0556.jpg

Then I had the boot smoothed and de-wipered.

IMG_0535.jpg

Then I bought some Hella LED Rear lights from a member on here.

They were originally black, but I took them to a body shop to have them tinted red, and this is what they looked like fitted on the car with the lights on

IMG_0593.jpg

This is what they looked like with the lights off:

Then this happened to one of my wheels

It was also nearing DC11 at this point, so it was time to take the BBS RM’s off and send them to Mike the Polisher to have them chrome powdercoated with fully polished dishes and black bolts all round.

So the BBS’s came off and the old wheels went back on

IMG_0619.jpg

IMG_0624.jpg

Then I sent my BBS RM’s to Mike the polisher, and he took around 2 weeks to sort them out, while he was doing that, I upgraded my sound.

Before:

JBL subs

IMG_0351-1.jpg

After:

Kicker L7 15” in a custom ported box, 4.2 cubic feet, tuned to 32 hertz, custom made for the polo by team spb.

IMG_0642.jpg

The bass dropped hard in this thing.

I also sound deadend the whole boot with dynamat extreme:

IMG_0789.jpg

Then I got a call from Mike the polisher saying he doesn’t have black bolts, so I had to source some myself and he sent the wheels back split with a tube of sealant for me to seal them up once I got the bolts.

I bought the black bolts from a company in germany, and they took around a week to get here, luckily they arrived just before I received the wheels back from Mike.

I received the wheels 2 days before DC11, so I took the wheels to dips at custom cars to fit the new bolts on to the newly refurbed wheels and have them sealed up.

Anyways this is what the wheels looked like when I received them back from Mike the polisher.

IMG_0673.jpg

Then I test fitted the bolts in a black, silver, black, silver combo to see what it looked like:

IMG_0668.jpg

IMG_0669.jpg

IMG_0670.jpg

And fitted on to the car:

IMG_0675.jpg

Then it was time to detail the car and get it ready for DC11 and GTI International

IMG_0684.jpg

The detailing process consisted of starting with a prewash, rinse, then snowfoam and rinse, then wash with 2 bucket method, then clay bar with quick detailer, then 2 bucket method wash and rinse again, then dry, then polish, then wax.

Here is what my car looked like at DC11

IMG_0681.jpg

And here is one taken at GTI International a week after DC11. This was also one of the hottest days ever.

Here is one parked on the road

Then I had to fit a voltmeter to my car so I knew the volume limit I could take my sub up to.

As the Stinger Voltmeter was so bright and blinding at night, I had to fit a switch to it so I can turn it on and off.

So all the blanks pulled out and routed wires through,

I had to have this connected to the amp so it was getting the voltage from the amp

During:

IMG_0723.jpg

IMG_0740.jpgl

All done:

Switched on

IMG_0743.jpg

Switched off

IMG_0744.jpg

You can see the switch on the left side button blank.

Then I decided to change my interior for some Recaro Colour Concept Leather Seats.

I bought these:

IMG_1043.jpg

After that the car was finished in my eyes.

Here are the final two shots of my car that I took with everything done and the Recaro seats fitted.

IMG_1064.jpg

IMG_1065.jpg

I left the car like that, and then a few months later In June 2013 I bought a new car

Here it is:

It’s a 2006 BMW E46 M3 Convertible.

I went from 60 bhp to 340bhp.

Anyways I hope you enjoyed reading through the journey I went through with building my car
