I'm getting a bit bored of my polo and want something with a bit more power and have been thinking of going to a car auction as there's a fairly big one quite local.

Anyone had an experience with them? Do you actually get cars for cheaper than they are being sold online for or has ebay made the gap so minimal its not worth it.

My budget is around £4-5k, and I'm looking at high powered saloons such as the M5,540i or C43 etc.

My dads bought from auctions for bargain prices. But he knew about the cars and had a chance to have a good look around before he bought it.

If you were saying 4-5k on a polo or golf I'd say go for it. But my dad works for mercedes and you should see the eye watering repair bills on the bigger engined cars. They're in auction for a reason and it may be because some one can't afford to repair it and want to get rid of it.

I used to go at least once a month, I've stopped going because there's no real bargains to be had anymore, especially with 5ks worth of Golf. Everyone knows what it's worth.

eBay for me now, hell gumtree too.

Don't forget about the daft buying fees to non trade too.

The traders know what it's worth, they will try and sell it for more than it's worth, the pay less fees than a private buyer, so they will always be able to bid that slight more than you.
