So i've found a great looking 3dr Golf

its the 2.0l Gti (x reg) at a great price

what i want to know is if any of you guys know the common faults on these?

Eg: mk2f battery tray going rusty

Apart from being the slowest GTi ever made!? Crap on fuel, seem to rev high on the M/W too.

They like to eat oil.

They're pretty solid cars though, suspension bushes and electrical issues is all you really hear about.

That and the moaning of people angry that it got the gti badge

Edit- on the plus side, it's an x reg so will be cheaper to tax than the slightly later ones I believe.

Door locks, rear axle bushes, window regs, and plenty more have a look on the mk4 golf forum.

I've just bought a mk4 GTI too. I got the 1.8 20vT version though.

From what I've read the common faults are window regulators, but yours should have had the metal clip upgrade by now.

Rear brakes sticking on, eating bushes and wheel bearings.

Mine also doesn't lock the boot. Dunno why just refuses to lock.

Other than that as long as it has been serviced then it should be a decent enough car, just don't expect much performance.

I haven't put them side by side but I know my G40 would piss all over my Golf in a straight line race.
