Hey all,

Sorry if this has been up before, had a search but not found a thread with the same problems as mine...

Right my polo has developed a problem that is seeming to get worse as time goes on.

Usually it won't start, even if it's been running and if i had to guess i'd say it was a fuel problem.

It's turning over but it just refuses to start....eventually if you keep trying, it will start, but it can take anywhere from 5 minutes, to (as i found out today) half an hour, to get it started.

I've checked all the obvious things:

fuel pump is working fuel is going through the fuel filter

its had a new starter motor

and the battery and alternator are only a couple of years old, and are working alright.

After the fuel filter, i don't know what it could be....so i'm hoping one of you fine people might have some sort of idea as to what could be causing it?

Does your glow plug light up every time with the ignition

Yep glow plug light is coming on

I've just left it stood for an hour and it won't start again...killed my battery trying to start it

could be a dodgy pump

I don't know. its like fuel is getting to the engine but not into it?

could it be something to do with the injectors?

glowplugs wont be an issue since its not cold right now. and does the car run when it is started?

have you changed the fuel filter?

possibly a fuel issue or compression. whe the car does start, if you switch it off, will it still take ages to start again or only if left for longer periods.

having a vcds/cag-com might be useful. i have one and I'm in sheffield btw.

Once i get it started it runs completely normal, no issues.

it had a full service not long ago, so the fuel filter is new.

Usually once its started, it will start back up again no problem. Its only when its left for a bit....but this seems to be getting worse, the time it can be left and still start seems to be getting shorter.

I plugged a sealey code reader in and it didnt come up with anything...but I'm not sure if it works properly.

tbh you really need something like vcds, its awesome. it can make diagnosing a millions times easier.

I was thinking it might be a fuel cut off valve getting jammed shut or something but i really dont know

I can almost guarantee it's the ecu relay have done a shed load of these at work ring up Vw and get one also when it does this try and connect a scanner if you get no communication then it's this

Yea, yesterday i tried my scanner while it was doing it and it said linking error....

I will try the relay and let you know
