It's just the thing a dealer would love, they could string you along for many man/hrs of fault finding and rip you off for many ££££££££££££'s

No we check cars for free it's how we make all our money.

I thought you made it by charging ridiculous labour rates?

dealers or a cheap garage wont take an engine apart and find a fault just for the owner to say I wont bother or il shop around lol

as nige said,it can and will be a premium for garages with diagnostics

We charge £100 per hour at Peugeot so I would assume VW are the same if not more

and with french electrics thats alot of fault finding

Ohhh yeah

Your best bet is to go to a VW specialist and ask them to have a look and see if they have any idea. If they say it could be this this or this, you just need to say i want to spend x see what you find.

Maybe post a video of the noise up here and somebody might have a good idea?

Have you tried just googling it or putting the question in the engine section on here? Forums and google have saved me thousands over the years with things like this

its also worth noting that it is a 3 cylinder TDI and they are tappy as fuck...
