Oh, I was looking at all kinds of things like bike carbs and new cams which are way beyond my mechanical ability. Also looking up sensible wheel sizes and types if ever I want to get rid of the casters.

I know what a spanner is but I'm pretty much mechanically inept, so I'm not going to be doing anything major.

I'll give her a clean and take some more pictures tomorrow.

The car is in pretty good nick, I think I over paid for it, on the other hand it looks unmolested and has only done 38,000 with dealer stamps from 91 to 09. I don't know enough to give you any more info I'm afraid, everything seems original apart from a seriously poor speaker install.

I'm loving the way the car handles, i've missed having something small and chuckable. The golf just seems lardy in comparison now.

you'll soon learn your way round, i was the same when i got mine. start off small and do your research and you can avoid any undue damage to the car

It was the 2L unfortunately, no turbo goodness for 18 year old me! I've had a look for another one recently. In the 480 community there is a guy you can post your ECU off to who will reprogram it for you for next to nothing to drag some extra power out of the 1.7 lump.
