As you guys will know i currently own a Red GTi on air with OZ Turbos.

I managed to crash it by driving into the back of someone!

One of mates had told me a couple of weeks earlier his mate was selling a complete silver GTi Cheap (MOT failure) So with crashing mine i thought it would be a good idea to buy it to steel all the parts needed to fix mine!

We got it back to the unit! where as you can imagine i started to strip the front end off to fix my car.

To be honest the shell is in quite good nick. It will do for the project anyway! As I've owned my GTi for 3 years i was really willing to get stuck in and get this thing apart by myself so i did! First off was the exhaust and manifold so i could get to the gear linkage and selector as one of the fellow 6n2 owners needed it for a conversion!

Then after unplugging god knows how many wires it was time to get the engine out! was really easy! i was not expecting it to come out as easy as it did after getting the stupid multi-spline drive shaft bolts undone!!

Here is the old ball bagged engine (Valve stem seals)

Which left me for a nice space for an engine!

I've since removed all the air con pipes and unclipped the rest of the wiring loom ready for removal. I've also removed the PAS pipes for the moment to get them out the way!

My Mate thinking he is some kind of rude boy in gti!

Next to tackle was the Dash Board i was not looking forward to this I've read many a time this can be a pig to get out! and yes it was! in fact i gave up and went home!

The biggest problem is my unit has no 3G which means i couldn't look up how to remove it! I have figured its the steering column which is in the way and needs to come out i will deal with that in the week!

I need to get the dash out to get at the wiring loom that goes through the bulk head and of course change the pedal box.

So my plan is as follows :

AUM Engine

02J Gearbox

VR6 inner cups / CV joints

I've found some Engine mounts diagrams on 6n2.de

Hydrulic Pedal Box (Lupo tdi / Polo Tdi)

Std AUM ECU with the 6n2 Front loom spliced into the AUM engine loom. (18 Wires needed)

I would really like to do this without cutting the chassis about but we will see.

At the moment i just need to get my arse in gear and buy an engine and box. But to be honest i want to get the wiring loom sorted and get the pedal box done first! because in my mind this is the most annoying part! from reading other builds of 20vt's

Only a small update!

I've got the dash board out that is a total arse of a job! I've just got to unplug the loom from the fusebox and get it spliced onto the AUQ loom. I've also got a hydro pedal box which I'm going to fit at the weekend (after I've managed to remove the dreaded sheer bolts!)

I now have a Engine. I was expecting to buy an AUM engine but when i got there it was actually an AUQ which has been mapped to 224 HP! should do the job!

By luck it already has an 02J 5 Speed box attached :)

went up the unit again yesterday afternoon! I worked really on getting the gearbox back on the engine so i could line it up in the engine bay. I'm surprised how well it fits in the bay!

so to make life easier i took the clutch off as its had it anyway! and removed the left hand drive shaft cup these are 108mm which as some of you will know they need to be 100mm Which i've since bought.

I also got some more of the wiring loom out of the polo i was hoping to get this sent of to be spliced this week but ran outa time :(

The engine (Cam belt) sits quite close to the Master Cylinder so i've ordered a modified Ibiza Cupra stubby master cylinder

The gearbox sits quite close to the chassis but untill i get my engine mounts i wont quite know what needs doing on that front!
