Manual choke conversion (Pierburg carb is notorious for autochoke problems)
MK1 Golf Carb (larger venturi and different jets. Golf uses same engine but produces 50hp)
Polo GT exhaust manifold and downpipe
K&N pancake filter
VWII Calipers with Brembo vented discs
MK2 Golf 5.5J donut steels with 'Fanblade' trim rings
Stupid and ridiculous exhaust tip made from old pipe (removable)

Bad
After getting kicked out of my workspace halfway through the body work, the car was left with huge patches of primer all over it. These were mostly from minor repairs, small dents and peeling paint on the arches. A year later, rust is starting to show through in some places due to the primer being slightly porous. Fortunately, I have loads of the correct 'Diamond Silver' PAINT INCLUDED IN SALE. These are Halfords rattle cans, which tend to give a pretty decent finnish. It should make it much cheaper for the next owner to sort out the paintwork to a reasonable standard.

Gearbox whined slightly in 5th. It has done this since fitting the box over 12 months ago and it hasn't got any worse, or shown any further problems.

Slight clutch judder when pulling off

Rear of exhaust is held up with shoestring tied round the bumper mount, as the mounting under the car rusted away (VERY common problem that's easy to sort)

Speedo doesn't work. I snapped the cable when messing with the clocks, and never got round to fitting a new one. The rev counter makes it easy to work out how fast you're going though.


Unfortunately, the other week he was stolen from outside my house. Thanks to the almighty force that is social media, and with help from the Police, we got him back later the same day. Luckily he was not too badly damaged by the toerags, but he does now need more work to be a nice drive again. The damage from the theft includes:

Broken side window (spare included in sale)
Cracked windscreen (spare included in sale)
Hotwired ignition (barrell still fine, just needs new plug and wiring back in)
Clutch bite now virtually on the floor
Brake pedal very spongy

The engine still runs beautifully, and I have driven it since getting it back. It's used no oil or water since going missing.

This car is ridiculously fun to drive. The engine upgrades give the 1.0 engine a seriously surprising amount of punch, helped out by the short ratio box. The suspension is a pretty cheap package, but it's an utter hoot to chuck around, with loads of feel through the steering wheel and very flat cornering. The uprated brakes are very strong, with plenty of feel. The theives must have had a blast. I can't imagine it taking much at all to get him running nicely again, but I just don't have the time, money or will power to fix him up. Since the theft I can't even look at him without feeling depressed and morbid, never mind work on him. This is a good thing for you good people though, as he makes a very cheap and easy project car to spend a little money and time on. I'd imagine a brake fluid change and some adjustment on the clutch cable would get him driving beautifully again. So grab yourself a bargain.

The car is located in South Birmingham, and I want £275 for it. It could be driven away, but I would advise trailering it as I wouldn't trust hotwiring the ignition, and the brakes are pretty scary at the moment.

It's a stupidly brilliant car, I think they will start going up in value in a few years when MK1s reach mega bucks. The exhaust is just bend from an old exhaust that I slotted onto the end for cool points.
