Hi does anyone if a car is pending being written off by the insurance company as Cat c can still be taxed. The reason I ask is my insurance company have informed me that the wife's polo is going to be a cat c but we can buy it back but at the same time my car tax reminder had come through. The car is still insured and mot'd for a few more weeks and I know once I send the log book in the car it will be near impossible to tax the car. So when the car is vic tested does it need to be remot'd and taxed after or if done before does it simply continue? Many thanks

Try it online and see. But if they have said it's a cat C I would suspect that they have already informed the DVLA of this.

I had a car written off back in 2011 which I bought back, the insurance had declared it cat C to the DVLA before I even had a chance to do anything.

As for getting the car back on the road it is pretty simple. If it still has an MOT then you're laughing, just get it fixed and put it into a VOSA testing station.

VIC stands for Vehicle Identity Check. It is exactly what it says on the tin. They check it is the same car that was written off, I can't remember how much it is but from my experience they just check VIN numbers and have a quick look over the repair then let you on your way.

If your MOT runs out before you can get the car VIC checked then you'll need to get an MOT done before the VIC can be done.
