Ok, so i mainly hang around on the G40 forums but started posting my build thread on other forums for people to enjoy :) and what a better place thana polo forum (my car being a polo!) ha so enjoy :)

I "accidently" bought the car in october 2012, i had a lovely capri green mk2 golf driver but was wanting more power. so i went and looked at a potential project not far from me in Andover. It was a small farm house with a massive front garden and garage, as me and my mate walked up the drive there was a lovely looking capri green mk2 g40 on the left. had never really been interested in Polo's before but seeing one in person i absoloutly loved it! as we got into the garden it was just swarmed with retro cars. the guy had 3 mk2f g40's an original black left hooker mk2 gt g40 from germany and a whole host of other cars. so i looked at the golf and it was a dog, pretty dissapointed but went on to look at more golfs that day and non of them ticked the boxes

so about 4 days later i enquired about the little green polo, it wasnt up for sale or anything. the guy said to come round and have a look as it was so close. so one evening i went up and had a look around... it was in a sorry state, to start with it didnt even start! he wanted strong money for it and it had just been abused, no service history at all, nothing. it wasnt looking good..

He offered for a quick spin in his modified g40 and well who wouldnt refuse that offer... my god!! he sold it to me, it was incredibly fast! i could not believe how insane it was! straight after that i conjured up £2500 and walked away with the biggest money pit and influential car I've bought

This is pretty much how it stood a year ago, other than a few changes





it was very unreliable to say the least, but i had a kind of break through.. sort off.. after getting the sump of to sort an oil leak i had a quick peak up at the underside of the pistons.. turns out she had been bored out and accralite 1341 pistons had been fitted epic news! as well as that it has a psd cam, psd full blend charger and a few other goodies but not all was good. all these modifcations with a map to suit of course, it had been mapped for 250cc injectors but only running 200cc injectors!! i was dam lucky not to melt a piston! those acrralites stood up to a right battering, i didnt take it easy on her!

i think around 6 months passed and i had fitted:

a whole host of original parts like new dizzy, all servicible items, charger bearings and seals, new pedal box as mine had cracked, clutch, gearbox oil, fuel pump, sorted the dodgy 51mm throttle body out, new engine earths
g60 injectors
arb blocks
60/40 h&r cup kit
51mm throttle body
Alloy radiator
phil J exhaust
4 branch
65mm toothies

and the car was already running:

psd full blend
psd 1341cc chip
psd high lift cam
1341 bottom end and accralite pistons

June 2013 came around faster than i had thought, me, my missus and best mates had planned on a road trip of a life time to switzerland, monaco, italy and france. i was very worried as the polo had been so unreliable. but i came back alive, with minimal break down issues ill post the whole trip at a later date, but heres a few photos

After getting back from the trip the car was in such a sorry state, was barley driveable after 2500 miles of hammering round the best roads the world had to offer it had really taken its toll on the old girl

well i decided to get it off the road and get another daily so i can give some proper attention
i pretty much stripped everything off it and rebuild most things, i did so much i cant remember all of it :S
i found a few nasty cracks in the chassis legs that i properly welded up and sealed
as well as fiting a stage 2 subframe

i didnt get many pics after that as i got it all back together and started using it as a daily for a little while. which i wasnt happy with
so after getting a new job and buying a proper daily with the payrise it pretty much brings me to the most recent things

So i asked my manager if i could respray my car a few weeks back and he was cool with it, planned it for the weekend

Before hand the car was sat on three different wheels and an axle stand on the road with different coloured body panels looking like an absolute heap i sold my bbs ra's and traveled all the way to Sheffield to sleep in a very small room, meet some like minded peeps and buy mr mirfins very retro looking compomotive wheels recently got tyres for them, decided on 195/45 r14 toyo t1rs

20mm spacers on the rear, non on he front, fitment is perfect! so whacked them on a drove it to work friday morning. finished work at half four and cracked on with the almighty task ahead. my mate dan dino helped me with the stripping and fitting. we both work together and did our apprenticeships at scothalls bmw and then at the same time both got jobs at snows

so anyway the plan went well, dan strip everything off the car whilst i prep and prime all the removable panels. dan did an awesome job and by 3 am the car was completely gutted i had all the panels in high build too the windows came out with intact seals a treat! though we did have a helping hand from the 70 degree oven. to panels were atrocious, they were rust free, but the bonnet had red oxide primer on it, orbi sanded it off which took forever!! then blocked the absolute pooe out of everything apart from the tailgate, wanted to get them all true and straight as well as uncover any dents. being a painter I've only ever filled small dents, was a bit out of my league here. when sanding one of the doors i uncovered a nasty repair that i had to re do, as a bit worried about this but came out lovely. getting my feel in my right hand now must be less wrist exerciseing or something

finished the day at three in the morning, managed to get two hours kip and then back on it for another 16 hours on saturday.. after working 20 hours on friday.. i wasn't as full of enthusiasm as friday and very tired very tired... but cracked on. saturday we got everything painted, got most of the dents repaired on the shell (didnt have enough time to do everything) found a few bits of rust/rot. a ground it down to clean metal and sealed it completely in with paint. so no more moisture or oxygen means no more rust well i hope! the shell was really nice!

worked till 1 in the morning bleurgh. painting a shell was hard, all the contours and shuts on top of the flat panels makes it hard to lay the clear on without getting a run in a place you dont want it, like where you cant flat it out
I only got the chance to polish the roof, but to be hounest, thats all it needed! the gun finish was epic! such and awesome finish, i used solvent base coat and it flashes of alot faster meaning less chance of getting dirt in the paint.

sunday start at 8, and finished fitting it all up by 6. i let dan do all the fitting as he is so dam good at it, absolute perfectionist. got all my seals and panels to fit so perfectly! i was so amazed at what he did, cant thank him enough!

so we smashed out a £2500 doors of windows out 4 panel colour change respray in 3 days cost me £70 haha and paint dans vespa frame awesome!

Really happy with the car now still got many things to do but I'm going to enjoy summer in it

not much will get done until winter as I'm currently having a workshop built for paintwork and all my money is going into that. got alot of people interested in resprays so need to get it built asap

Pictures have gone small for some reason :S

Anyway, after having a really stupid moment of wanting to sell the car, I'm now over that lol.
still want a mk1 golf/ something old and jap/ rado but I've become so attached to the polo after all this work i could never really do the deed :(

The plan is.. switzerland 2015 (going to wales next month ) and i need the car tip top, so in september it will be getting a full strip down and rebuild woop! in my newly built workshop!!
is going to be tight fitting it inbetween work, and customers cars! will be busy!

Love your car, and the wheels, yet one part of me doesn't think they go. I reckon the rears poke too much.
