Hola all, I've just brought (barring all nonsense paperwork that needs to be filled out in Spain) this amazing condition 1992 mk2 Polo GT Genesis. Only 61000kms (37000miles) on the clock. one minor ripple in drivers door and a chip of paint from the boot, which will be sorted. I always wanted a VW project and couldn't let this one slip through my hands especialy after the test drive, previously owned by a 60 year old lady from new don't think the car had ever felt 6000rpm before!! 650 Euros that's 526.46 GBP, to which my GF said, "It's crazy to me, a 22 year old car! I just hope you arent in the garage every month. But if your happy!" to be fair I see her point but, with any luck I will be working on it alot!! Hahaha! the body work, chassis and frame has no rust not even in the usual wheel arches, fuel filler or the spare wheel arch and all the rubber on the body work is all in excellent condition. Only things I need are a drivers (Passengers door in England) trim/bumper and a gear stick gator! Have the photos from the website and will post more once she is in my possesion.

I must have been mistaken that this was a good example of a 22year old, basically stock coupe GT and also that you lot were friendly! Hope in the future if I need some help maybe someone will say something! Hahaha!

I was astonished when I saw the price it was up for 750. thought there must have been something wrong with it but I've bought second hand cars before and since it's Spain I though, it would be an old photo and would be nothing like it but handles amazingly well, sounds great on full rev and idle. I'm just stuck between keeping it 100% stock or lowering it and putting some mk2 Golf/Sirocco Alloys for it. It's basically stock so should i ruin it?

Thanks Elijah, I really am torn between stock or mod. As would love to put some Golf/Scirocco Pirelli P slots on her, and lowering her a little would help handling, no.? I would keep the original tyres and steels.. I'm pretty new to all this mechanical stuff any advice on the first things I should sort out would be great.. Was thinking Cambelt.! As don't know last time it was done, or even if it was as belts need changing every 60000kms or 5 years.. But like I said 60 year old lady.! Although when I checked oil, air filter they seemed pretty clean.. So the servicing has definitely been kept up to date.. Any help would be appreciated..

I think some period alloys always look nice man.

Even a subtle 40mm drop will look good, I found it improved body roll no end too.

Plus you can keep the standard shocks at that height too.

Wanting to put on Period Alloys are one thing but finding an original set of 14"-15" Pirelli P slots and not copies is like looking for a virgin at Hefs mansion.! Impossible.! Have scouted around for some breakers yards but my Spanish isn't up to much yet with this kind of vocab.. What's the deal with the mechanical stuff.? What should I look out for.? As I said not that mechanically minded.. Cheers.

Also how much would it cost to lower the suspension.? English prices as a guide.. Not excepting it to be the same but will look for ball park figures.

Also what's the deal on struts for extra stability and induction kit on the performance.? Anyone changed this and seen any dramatic change in performance.? As I said would like it to be stock but also want the best type of stock I can have without compromising on original styling..
