My scrapper of a 6n

Featured Replies

I've said to myself a few times now, I'll never buy another 6n.

But last week my girlfriend spotted a 6n in a local dealer for just £250. I was unsure of the idea at first and kinda just left it. But then yesterday we drove past the dealer and noticed the price in the window was now just £150. I thought it is worth a look at that so I went in and saw it. Got the keys and to my surprise it started first time and everything worked.

Went back in, offered the guy £100 and he took it. A working 6n, with 1 months tax and 6 weeks mot for £100!

It is a bit rough around the edges but here it is.

With the standard dent in the metal part of the rear bumper.

Gave it a quick wash and decided to see if I could turn the bonnet from Flash Pink back to Flash Red.

Long term plans?

For now I'm just going to run it as a daily until the tax is out then put it in for an MOT.

If it fails badly then I'll just scrap it and get my money back.

If I can get it passed then I have a few options.

Keep it as it is, as a rough ugly daily workhorse.

Transplant the engine out of my Golf 1.8T into it for a laugh.

Or slam it, set of alloys and paint it a funky colour

I'm thinking the last option will be the most fun with little expense.

Rollered harlequin, decked on snowflake alloys.

Sounds like a plan to me. Depends if it passes an MOT though, putting it in for a test in 2 weeks.....

Right it was MOT day today for the little scrap heap.

Failed on the following.

Number plate light bulb (already fixed)

Steering UJ excessively rough

Offside track rod end

Near side rear floor has a hole

Rear fog light bulb (already fixed)

Headlight aim.

So overall not bad. The only thing that is worrying me is the steering UJ. I've never changed one before and I don't know how much they are and how easy they are to change.

So do I fix it or do I scrap it?

you can get a searing rack cheap off ebay. is a pain in the tits to do. you have to drop the sub frame and that can be a pain.. I did one on my 6n
