BUT do take care when testing the pump - Electrical sparks from the temporary connection and petrol are not a good mix - I have the scars to prove it!!

Fuel filter and pump out should of seen all the crap and rusty type fuel that can out the filter . I just about to blow my self up now with bench testing fuel pump see you in A.A.E

yeah no joke ...make double sure theres no sparks and its not where you can burn your car/house down

petrol fires are very scary (ask me how i know )

Can I run crock clips and cable direct from 12v car battery ? I shall do it in garden

I would if possible make decent crimp connections on long bits of wire so you can have the battery far away from the petrol.

when you had the sender out did you look inside the tank? wondering if youve had some bad /dirty fuel

Yes looked in tank it was a bit dirty ish but have seen worse , was thinking I may drain the tank ? will I have to remove the hole tank to drain and flush it out ?

yeah would be worth dropping the tank and sloshing it out , you sure its not a rotten filler neck letting in water?

Well I hope not as i cleaned neck and waxoyl it a few year ago but never removed the tank . Any advice on removal of tank ?

Did you check ebay fuel pump with item number ?

not much to the removal..make sure its on axle stands and safe , emtpy the tank and undo the strap , i lower it onto my chest then slide it out

some folk have to drop the driver side of the rear beam to get the neck out

i looked at the pump yeah-will mention it to matey

I dunno what the standard pumps run pressure wise but I know the FPR on the fuel rail is 3 Bar so that pump should be ok to pressurise that.

If it were me though I'd try and get a standard one. The GT and G40 are the same so plenty about.

How do I empty tank of fuel before I take it out ? not sure I fancy dropping the rear beam to get neck out can it be done without messing with rear beam ?

You say lots of gt g40 fuel pumps are about but where og one from overseas is £150

hmm yeah mines a mk2 so just undo the pipe lol

i guess you will have to run the intank pump to emtpy it...or if its not got much in leave it just makes it heavy

on mine it simply wouldnt come out with the beam in place , others report thiers come out no problem maybe its an issue with non genuine parts ? its no big deal just unbolt that side and let it drop down a few inches

For reference

The pressure should be 3Bar with no vacuum, 2.5Bar with vacuum and holding 2Bar minimum for 10 mins with pump off,

The External pump should deliver 0.42~0.63Litres/30 seconds (3Bar 10~12vSupply)

The internal pump should deliver 0.3Litres/10 seconds min

Ok sound as if I can do that . Shall leave it a while before I buy a fuel pump off ebay just in case someone comes up with a og one , in the meantime I shall remove tank . I always place axle stands under rear beam as its a good strong point this I can not do it I need to undo and drop beam a bit ?

try it first with em on the beam you might be fine , if not the stand needs moving to the sill lip or the back edge of the floor with a bit of wood to spread the load

Ok great fingers crossed tank is rot free around the neck . shall be hitting this job on Saturday I hope .

have a look for rot in the bodywork thats hidden by the filler neck too , alot have savage rust there
