Well I've had the car for over a month now and check this forum out most days do I thought I better start a thread.

She's a 1986 1.3 Polo named Eva by her former owner.

I received the car in return for doing some CAD work for my girlfriends Dad, it was previously owned by her younger brother as his first car. He drove it for a couple of months not knowing that the MOT had run out.



She has a 1.3 MH engine with the standard carb, no engine mods.

Her she is!

There was a few things that needed to be sorted for the MOT. The exhaust was blowing, it needed some new tyres and the bonnet fit correctly (it was driven not fully locked down and flung up bending the hinges). Other things to be done was a fuel filter and air filter change and an oil change. when I first got the car the tappets were quite noisy but they quietened down after the oil change.

I couldn't find the exhaust blow at first, eventually I realised that it was coming from the exhaust manifold gasket so that was an easy fix.

Whilst waiting to source some new bonnet hinges the O/S/F wing has got some dents in it so I decided to have a go at taking it off and trying to bash them out, I didn't end up achieving anything but at least I know how to do it when I make a proper job of it.

I had got both rear tyres changed but as I was working on the car I became more worried about one of the front ones as well, I also liked the look of the baby g60s but after finding out that they wouldn't fit and not wanting to pay a premium for them I went for the next best thing, Skoda Felicia wheels haha! So I got a set for £40, spruced them up a bit and put them on.

Another thing that I did whilst waiting to get it on the road was linseed oil the trim, it makes it look so much better!

I sourced some bonnet hinges from a member on here from a mk2f, a slightly different hinge but they fit and work and I could finally take it for a drive! It wasn't running very well, misfiring quite a bit. So whipped out the spark plugs and wire brushed them and she ran much better. She still didn't pass the MOT first time, but the mechanic stuck a second hand rotor arm on an a second hand ignition lead and she passed her emissions. Since the MOT I replaced the full set of leads and combined with a coolant flush she's running really well.

Recently I had to find out what was going on with my wing mirrors, I have the knobs to make adjustments but they don't do anything so I took of the door panel to investigate.

Turns out I have non adjustable wing mirrors but the wires are all there!

Things for the future included fitting the g60 centre caps that I bought, unfortunately the rear bolts are non standard as the wheels are spaced meaning that the clips don't fit. I need to bore out a little of the bolt head. Also I don't actually see the car as much now, my girlfriend car died so she's now using the polo as her daily whilst she's home from uni so most of the major work will take place after September. There is quite a few patches of paint that need sorting out, it looks as if there was some questionable touching up done in the past. I would also like to have the badges on the back but I just need to source some at a reasonable price. I'm also toying with the idea of putting some red stripes on the grill, I think red and silver look good, however as it isn't actually a sport model I'm not sure although I believe it has the same engine as the coupé s. Also want to get my hands on a parcel shelf as this one I have has bloody 6x9 holes cut in it for speakers that I sold him haha!

You do have 'mini g60s' as such...

'mini g60s' is a bollox term anyway, it just refers to 14" steels that look a bit like G60 steels.

they're the exact same wheel that you got off of a skoda that VW would have used in their cars. They're not rare so i don't understand why people pay the premium for them just because they are branded with the g60 name!

Yeah, I'm very happy with the 13" Skoda steels, knew they would fit and still look the part!
