I could not stand those rubbish 3'' speakers in the dash on my MK2f so I decided to sort it out. I made some simple, cheap and effective door pods out of MDF and fake leather so I could have some decent 6.5'' speakers in the doors.

First of all I made a template out of paper to get the rough shape:

Then I drew it on the MDF and cut it out:

I then had to shave a groove out with an electric sander so the window winder didn't rub:

I then cut a hole for the speaker and test fitted it:

I then shave a groove out around the hole to sink the speaker in a bit for a better look:

I then made an identical piece for the other side:

Then I had to cut a hole in the door card so The speaker would fit:

Then I covered the pieces in fake black leather and screwed them on and there done!

After the doors were done I needed somewhere to put the tweeters. The tweeters I have fit perfectly in the holes where the stock speakers were! And having them facing the windscreen is the best place to have them as the sound bounces off the screen giving you a surround sound effect.

I was aiming to make the sound system look as stock as possible. The black leather really goes with the rest of the interior and I'm really pleased with out they turned out. The total cost of the build excluding the speakers was £16! You can't go wrong with that!

How do I put it in the FAQ? And I was thinking of making them to sell, if I could get enough people that wanted them I would consider doing it. I would charge about £50 for a pair and it would include all the right screws, washers ans installation instructions.

do you know thats not a bad price when bready is on the road and stereo wiring in i will give you a shout whats the turn around time

I'd only be interested in making them if I can make several pairs up. So If I get enough people interested then I will start making more.

The door pockets used to annoy me anyway coz all my mates would just fill them with rubbish.

Very good work, I would so buy a set of these if I had a mk2 as I agree the poopy little speakers in the dash aren't that good above like 10 on the volume... Ie when sound comes out
