LPG Kit / whole car with fancy bits too.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone.

I have a tired old MK2f breadvan that has an LPG kit installed. The car has done well over 200,000 miles but still drives great. It is a 1.3 SPi with a whiny 5 speed gearbox (it has whined for the 20,000 miles i have driven it and before that, only whines in 1st and 2nd). It has a home made but very sturdy lower front chassis brace, fancy ARB blocks, brand new standard shocks and springs all round. Back seats have been removed and it has been boarded out, Audi 80 front seats. It comes with a brand new set of 40mm lowering springs and a larger golf throttle plate.

The MOT has run out but the car would no doubt go through another MOT without much being required, it is however very tatty and tired and would probably be better for someone else to use the LPG kit and the fancy bits and scrap the rest.

£400 ono takes the car with all the spare parts I have for it.

Only reason I am selling is I no longer use it and my parents want rid of it off the driveway. The car is VERY VERY cheep to run, returning normal mpg but with LPG available at around 70p per litre (or cheeper).

If you would like more info PM me and I will give you my phone No. or email etc

This is an old pic of the car -

What age is the LPG kit?

  • Author

I honestly have no idea, I have owned the car for about 3 years, I think the previous owner had it fitted, I would hazard a guess at maybe 6 or 7 years. It runs very well on LPG.

Bump for the weekend, make me an offer :)

Wish I had the space for this....

If the worst happens - please consider me for the airbox, hose, inlet manifold with gas injector and throttle valve.

The main gas kit (tank/hoses/reducer) can't really be used on another vehicle as (gas) parts over 10 years old cannot be certified.

Good luck.

Where abouts are you based? I am actually tempted to break the car.

Long way off (between Bristol & Bath)

still here :good:

I've located the inlet system I need but if you do get offers for parts that justifies you dismantling the car - I'd be interested in the 'cooker ring' for the gas system and (depending on make) possibly the gas reducer (if I can get the parts to recondition it).

Would need to be posted.

Good luck - it would be a shame to break it - if I had the space I would have already collected it.

By gas reducer do you mean vaporiser? I think if I were to break this for parts I would want to sell the LPG system fairly complete. You would be getting all the parts from the mixing ring on top of the inlet manifold, the pipework to the vaporiser, the solenoid flow controller and the little "ECU" control box for it etc, basically everything but the tank and the main pipework (unless of course you wanted these too)

The system is great and the car actually runs better on LPG than petrol. I am not 100% sure what this lot is worth so PM me an offer if you like. If there is any other parts you need put those down too.

New full front end kit for this kind of system (SPI) ~£100 -150 so its not really worth fitting parts that can't be 'signed off' for the insurance company due to age.

I have most of the parts - I'm just missing the 'mixing ring' (about ~£25 if I buy on its own) and the only 'vapouriser' I have is a cheap make @ ~£60 (but only a couple of years old). If you had a posh 'vapouriser' then it might be worth me rebuilding it.

Tank/hoses can't be used due to age - just like refillable gas bottles and fire extinguishers.

Good luck with the breaking.
