1988 Mk2 Polo/Breadvan Project, help!

Featured Replies

Right, I have a 1988 Mk2 breadvan in need of some love. The car is totally standard hence everything could do with a bit of an update. It's a 1.3 with 4 speed gearbox, if I were to put a whole new engine in what ones would fit? I want something with a little more power and change to 5 speed gearbox. I heard the mk2 1.3 golfs ones would fit in nicely but I'm really not sure??

At the moment I have an oil leak too, its not the gasket or the cam seal as I have replaced them both, however it still seems as though there is fresh oil still leaking from just under the cam belt area; there is also oil on and all around the cam belt.... Any ideas what it could be ?

Please feel free to ask any questions or offer help ! :)

Oil leak could be head gasket.

A 1.3 from a golf will fit, there are a few other options too though.

The 1.4 ABD from a mk3 golf is a good one to fit as it's very similar to the 1.3 engine.

2nd that on the head gasket. 1.4 abd you'll be lucky they're getting rare now, trying to find one myself.
