Hey guys, this has been a long time coming, but now she's near enough finished, I thought I'd better share my Polo

She's a 2004 1.2 12v Twist who goes by the name of Pandora. Given to me by my mum who upgraded to a Citroen DS3 DSport Plus, this is the best first car out of the lot of them in my eyes (Corsa, Clio, 206 etc..). But obviously being slapped in the face with the whole new driver malarkey this time last year, £270 a month to drive a standard car was too much so no modding was to happen. Happily though, a year on, I'm down to £150 a month with all of my mods declared, so happy days, lets get straight into it!

So, I sat down with Google Images open in search of inspiration, I wanted a sort of goal if you will, another Polo that I could look at and happily say "If my car turns out half as nice as that I'll be chuffed". I've always been into BBS style wheels, I'm not a fan of thin spokes unless there's more than 10 of them :P . So after trawling through the interwebs I found this:

...but for now, I started with this; unmolested, 54k on the clock (Aug '13)

So regardless of how the 'target' Polo looks my first port of call was the inside of the car. You guys may think I'm a bit weird by saying it but I wanted the car to be nice from where I would be spending most of my time when I was with it; in the driver's seat. So I thought sensibly; what did I want from my interior? The answer came very shortly afterwards; touch screen and a kick ass sound system. So I got this;

...and a 12" subwoofer to boot. The standard speakers are pretty good to be fair, I will replace them at some point but working part time whilst studying I didn't want to waste money, if it isn't broke, don't fix it!

Then I started thinking about my ease of access. I bloody hated the standard key, so I spent £80 and got a Remote Central Locking CCM and a fancy flip keyfob

In that photo of my double din you can see some fancy pride of Scotland tartan. That was kindly donated by Dexter Bishop, a friend of mine who had installed GTI Seats and the two tartans clashed so I swapped the standard three passenger door handles, the two centre console bits and the parcel shelf for his tartan ones, and took his wheels away from him as well

I believe they're Calibre Vintages, 16x8 with BBS Centre caps on them, really bloody nice, and at £400 I thought why not, tyres are brand spanking new so they fit the bill

So the inside was done, a set of new shoes for the outside were purchased and put on, well the obvious next move was to lower her. So I saved up for JOM Bluelines with new top mounts and droplinks from a Mk1 Mondeo, and they were fitted as well!

Ahh, much better

Right, so now Pandora is low, looking pretty swish if I'm honest, next move? Indicator tints, wind deflectors for the front two windows and a fancy windscreen sticker.

So the lights turned out okay and the wind deflectors are on, as well as the sticker. I chose the OhSoFresh sticker for two reasons; one being that I haven't seen one on another car yet, and second being the O is a perfect place for my tax disc

Right, so that's pretty much it I suppose, but I've still got a few more things in store;

- Cupra R Splitter

- Tinted Rear Windows

- GTI Steering wheel

But for now, I'm happy in saying she turned out exactly how I wanted her to;

where did you get the remote central locking done lad

Get a Remote Central Locking CCM and a flip key, put the CCM in, put a transponder from one of your old keys into your new flip one, get the key cut and program it, there's loads of videos on YouTube on how to program it

Hi mate,

I had to jack my car up and screw the splitter in with self tapping screws 👍 trim the splitter down to size first of course, offer it up to the bumper and cut to size

Right, so a small gap between the last post and this, a few things have happened, not really major but I thought I'd keep you guys updated.

The first new addition is the weighted gear knob and the tartan gaiter. The gear knob is a Skunk2 Racing weighted gear knob, costed me £15 from eBay. I kindly asked mother dearest to make use of her sowing skills and make me a gaiter out of the tartan I had left, and there you have it;

So after that it was show season, and I managed three this year; TheBigMeet 2014, Edition38 & Players 2014. And as everyone knows, when you go to shows, you buy stickers, it's a fact, it just happens :P

And this is how my rear window currently looks (did I mention I got my rears tinted?)

And now winter is fast approaching I need new wheels, as I don't want to run the standard 14" wheels! So I searched eBay low and high and came across a set of 16" alloys from a Skoda Fabia VRS, and after selling my standard alloys and buying the new alloys the net expenditure was £32, so I can't really moan haha!

They're currently off for refurbishment at the moment, they are going to be the same purple as the tartan. Here's a pic of what I'm hoping they will look like. The car will sit lower, as this photo has 205/45 tyres and the tyres I'm getting put on them is 165/40.

Oh, and I'm planning on getting my arch linings and adjusters out Friday too, just in time for Uni!

How Easy is the central locking install?

Thanks vdoubleu, they're really nice haha, never seen them on a Polo before as well, strange :/

The central locking wasn't too hard, you need a new Comfort Control Module (CCM) and a flip key with a fob. The CCM is plug and play, and your fob will need to be programmed 👍

Seen the Fabia VRS wheels on a couple of 9ns before and they look really smart; OEM but slightly more modern-looking than Montreals :)

Must say, I'm actually really tempted to go for a set of Calibres now after seeing these, seeing as it's just a daily and I can't afford or justify the cost of actual RSs, haha.

Right, better get this updated after a good six months....

ALOT HAS CHANGED :P

But, to keep with the continuity of it all, I'll begin where I left off, with this photoshopped image of my Polo on the VRS Alloys

Got them eventually and sprayed them, chucked some Nankang 165/40's on them and et voila

Winter wheels were on. I didn't really see these wheels making it to show season this year as I bought them knowing I'd kerb them to buggery before then! But I liked these over the alternative (Montreal's) so I thought why not...

But, as it always goes, it's never the wheels that get hit, it's the car, and on the 12th January this year, I got pranged...

Stationary in a car park, and a woman in her thirties reverses and slams her Vectra into me, and then blames me. The day I was meant to be going back to University as well, what a ba***rd....

Anyhoo, insurance pennies didn't come through til February but I didn't like the idea of having a whopping dent in my car if my student finance could afford to fix it, so it got sorted ASAP by a local company, Scuffs 'N Buffs. Got me some cheeky extras thrown in, got the damage you saw in the photo above fully repaired (I bought a new door & had it sprayed), scratches out of the front bumper, boot resprayed, and door handles colour coded for £700, so I couldn't whinge, and Pandora was good as new!

And then before I was due to go back to University, I thought to reward Pandora for fighting through this battle, I'd take her to a friend, Dexter, so he could help me take my adjusters out and finally experience the horrible side of coilovers

Then, it was time for what has turned into my party-piece if you will; bass. I had an EDGE Active 12" sub before and I met a few lads at ED38 last year that completely blew it out of the water, so I got in touch with them to see if they would be willing to give me advice and a hand installing it all, and the show was on;

The Subwoofers and Amp drain a fair whack of power, so you can't be too careful

Subwoofer Box. £30 of MDF built to a spec so that the port booms at about 27Hz

And I thought that was it for Pandora if I'm honest, I told myself I wouldn't spend another dime on her, okay if she needed tyres or a new splitter, the little things, I'd fork out, but nothing big, until another friend, Kie, came up trumps with a Votex Kit (All Excluding Grille). Well that was me, hook, line and sinker. £250 later and my parents were on their jolly way to pick it up! They love me that much haha!

Bit of a mad rush before Ultimate Dubs 2015, as I was mid-semester at Uni, and could only come home on the weekend to sort it, so I was in the door Saturday morning at 1am, and straight back out of it at 10am :P The same bodyshop who fixed Pandora were given the job to paint the kit, and because I was becoming a regular he allowed me use of his unit to get it all on amongst a few other bits in the mad rush up to UD, it was one hell of a day! Started at 11am, finished by 8pm, and I had to go back home to wash the car again, but just look at her

I 'effing love the Votex Grill and Splitter combo on the 9n

But enough of the loving, I'd ran into another problem (as always). The VRS wheels and the Votex kit together were a recipe for Votex disaster; it scraped the skirts like nobody's business, so I needed bigger wheels. And this time, I thought I'd really go all out with Pandora, I thought I haven't scrimped on the rest of the car to this point, let's not stop.

Can you tell what it is yet!?

Most of you will recognise that they are BBS RC041's. 20mm adapters on the rear and 15mm on the front.

And now, the ABSOLUTE LAST modification was the roof rack & bars. I got a Yakima fairing and didn't want it going to waste so I bought some Halfrauds bars and whacked them on, and to be honest, they're looking epic....

Right, that's it, I'm done! Might be getting rid in August, if my funds for a new car just don't quite stretch far enough, otherwise she will be SORN'ed and be converted to Air/Hydros with 12 x 12" subs in the rear with a show cage....

Awesome!  Although not sure what being a woman in her thirties has to do with anything?! Lol I am a woman in my thirties!  But seriously, this is a great thread with attention to detail!  Love it!
