you cannot change the registration of a vehicle without a valid MOT certificate and tax.

Part of the process involves providing you with a new tax disc as you send the valid disc back with the V5. i do not know how this will be in a couple of months time when the tax disc is no longer required on UK cars.

I had my own issue with a private plate - i purchased mine before my car was road legal - i could not put it on the car until it was taxed and mot'd - as this was 3years i had to pay the retention fee 3 times! which is £75 a go. you will have to pay this to get the plate onto retension to sell
