complete vw newbie says hi!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

My names Dan,26 and I live near Pershore.Been obsessed with classic cars and bikes since a young age and have owned around 30 Reliant,Moggy Minors,Minis,2cv,Trabants etc etc.I currently ride a Royal Enfield.

Have started looking for another car having been riding bikes for a year or two, and not wanting the constant welding or tinkering of something like a minor, and having no interest in modern cars, sort of found my way to a mk2 Polo.My dad had a y reg breadvan when I was a toddler, even towing a 10ft caravan to tenby with it

For a holiday (and snapping a half shaft on the way home!!) So have fond memories of that, plus I've always liked them and saw them as the perfect mix of newishness while being old enough to work on myself.Anyway a friend of mine has a mk2f (news to me,I always thought they were mk3s) and he let me have a go in it,and that was it,completely sold! Loved the driving position, the way it drove and the general feel of it,so now I'm in pursuit of one!

I've found what could be a peach which I'm going to look at,an 88 estate with 48k on it,its beenofc the road for a few years tho,but dry stored. Just wondering if there is anything I should look out for (aside from the usual things) as if it just needs a few brake bits/service items it could be perfect for me,and hopefully I will become an active member!

All the best

Dan

Here you go,more once I've trailered it to work,my boss owns a split screen camper and beetle so said I could keep it at work while I get it sorted :-)

Was very pleased to find a folder full of every service receipt and a fully stamped service book at the local vw dealer!

Certainly am! Its a "comet" I can't find any info on it so wonder if it might be a dealer special? Its in really good nick with a lot of history, hopefully won't take much to get it back on the road, main issue seems to be a possible autochoke problem,it fires straight up but needs constant feathering of the pedal to keep it running, sounds nice tho!
