Getting there with my Son's VW Polo. Working through the problems, 2nd hand cars ... who needs 'em!

The drivers door lock is completely seized. No movement whatsoever. I've purchased the lock repair kit form fleabay, but there appear to be no guides for removing the from door lock on this model. Heaps of info on the 6N, but not the 9N.

Can someone help out!

His car has manual windows, no central locking. I have found the hidden torx (27) screw and loosened it back about 13 turns. This seems to have made the door handle looser, but the lock barrel stays stubbornly solid. Tried mashing it with my hand, gently levering with a screwdriver from the bottom. Nothing I do seems to loosen it.

Any hints and tips for drivers door lock barrel replacement on a 2002 Polo three door ....

Fantastic! Looks like my issue is I did not pull the handle whilst looseneing the torx bolt. Will retighten it tomorrow, pull the handle and try again.

Ok, I tightened up the torx bolt again ... and after about 10 turns the door handle made a clicking sound and lost the looseness.

Handle works fine, door opens and closes perfect.

My lovely wife then held the door handle open whilst I again loosened that torx screw. Took it right out to the end of the threads and carefully backed it back on one turn. (Brave eh?)

The door handle went loose again, but the lock barrel remains stubbornly in place with no movement whatsoever.

Tried putting the key in and working the lock back and forward but no joy.

Got out the big guns, rubber mallet time!!

Tried gently (?) hitting it in all directions to try and free it off ... absolutely no movement.

Tried prising it up with a screwdriver. Nada!

Gave it some more welly with a screwdriver, and the black cover on the lock clicked up, but the barrel did not move.

Now got lovely scratches in the paintwork around the lock. FFS!

Any more tips and hints people before I resort to the oxyacetylene torch!!
