Hi, iv recently order some new tie rods to replace my old ones & was wonder about what size extractor tool i will need to order for the job. I've searched all over for the standard size for 6n2 and nothing! I'm going to wait to see what the size of the aftermarket ones are but require help on the size of the standard factory ones are, does anyone have a clue with these things?

A universal one from somewhere like Halfords will do the job BUT, go for the type that has a bolt that you tighten to push the ball-pin out of its taper.

If you use the 'cows foot' type that you hit with a hammer, they can damage the rubber boot - not too much of a problem if you are fitting new TREs, but NOT good when you want to re-use them.

When you unscrew the old units from the track rod, count the number of turns required to get them out. - Putting the new ones in by the same number of turns is an APPROXIMATE setting, but you will need to have the tracking checked/re-set when you have completed the work.

Hi, thanks for reply! I meant to say its the inner tie rod connections i need to get to, I'm abit clueless on the right size extracter tool until I'm ready to do the job! The tool slides over the whole tie rod to get to the nut, then you have a 1/2 drive fitting on other end to extract it! Theres many types you can buy, I've been looking at the 'bergen' & 'nielson' ones if these are any good?

Hi mate,having the very same problem getting to the nut on the old tie rod at the steering rack end,?what did you end up using?? did you have to use the removal tool or did you end up using a normal spanner,i'm struggling getting a spanner on the nut itself..??also what size spanner is the nut to remove the tie rod from the rack end,thanks for any reply.
