Featured Replies

2005 '05' Clio 182 Cup

Racing Blue

Cup spec: Cup spoilers, A/C not climate, cloth interior not leather, increased castor, further uprated springs and dampers, grey wheels, equal length drive shafts

Approx 71k Miles

2 Owners (myself and BTCC champion Tim Harvey)

Tax till October/November

MOT April 2014-2015 (only advisory was rear brake lines if I remember right)

No finance. Never written off. Original gearbox and engine.

Introduction: Mechanically sound with a couple of cosmetic issues to be resolved. Never raced or been on a track day. Most of its life it's been my main car for getting around and enjoying b-roads on the weekend. Perfect track day car for someone wanting to get stuck in with something that's up to the task out the box. Turn the key and go! Suitable for hill climbing as well, would fit well in A2 class where Gogsie is tearing it up in his Clio.

Service history: Always serviced by Tim's race team or myself; except for the 5 yearly cam belt service which was completed by Renault Brechin at a cost of £960 in 2010 (before there was a Scottish specialist who could do it for half that). Aux belt, rear brakes and bearings done at same time. I prefer to service car myself and know what is going into it rather than have a garage carry out work. Always ran on correct grade fully synthetic oil and serviced with genuine Renault parts.

Recently I've replaced:

Front dampers (Genuine Renault Cup spec)

Front top mounts (Genuine Renault)

Front callipers (OEM Spec. Professional Remanufactured)

Front discs (Brembo High Carbon)

Front pads (DS2500 Ferrodo)

Rear discs with bearings and ABS rings (Genuine Renault)

Rear pads (Genuine Renault)

Hand brake cables (To be fitted)

Brakes bled

Coolant change (Genuine Renault)

NGK Platinum spark plugs (OEM Spec. expensive!)

Bosch battery

New Michelin PE2 tyres (Imported from Germany which were made for this car and now discontinued)

Past Notable Replacement Parts:

Gearbox oil

Exhaust (Stainless Steel Resonated Miltek)

Rear dampers (Genuine Renault Cup spec items)

Engine Mounts (Vibratechnics engine and gearbox. Powerflex dog bone)

Lower front ball joints.

Current work needing completed:

Oil change due (Have parts)

Air filter (Have part)

Tracking needs tweaked after fitting new rod end

Bleed brakes (Have ABS port access via computer now and fluid) or refit anti-squeal shims as pedal is a little long on first application but mega if tapped first...could be a little air in the ABS unit or pads sitting back from disc.

Fit new CAT to exhaust seal as blowing a little (have genuine Renault kit).

Body work: Have a couple of body work issues which in the middle of sorting and will be reflected in the price of the car. Had a minor altercation with a small deer last year which resulted in some light cosmetic damage. I've replaced the front bumper and passenger wing that cracked due to being plastic. I have replacement bonnet due to a dent from deer. It's silver so will need matched to the car. Bootlid was keyed when I worked at Union Square. Rear bumper has a scuff; again from being parked in Union Square. Been quoted £400 to have paint work done.

Inner wheel arch on passenger side needs sourced and fitted, only about £20/30 from Renault but was holding out for a second hand one. Headlamp washer blanks need fitted to new bumper with tiger seal or similar. Front splitter missing; bought Skoda item to replace as Renault want £156! Rabbit to blame for that. Of course for a hillclimb car these issues might not be too much of a worry...if anything it'll help you go faster at Doune! Wheels have a few marks but are original set so to be expected.

Being a Renault of this age it's been galvanised from the factory and is rust free, very impressed with how well it's resisted winters in Aberdeen.

Parts: I have spare CAT as they were £960 new. I have set of poly bushes for front wishbones that I've not had a chance to fit yet. I've got a set of inner tie rods to fit some day though originals are fine. I' think I've got a drivers tie rod and a lower ball joint. I've got an RS Tuner remap and code reader device. Haven't put 98ron map on yet. Believe ownership can be transferred for small fee.

Final Words:Made 180bhp on rolling road day when everyone else was hitting book figures. Unusual for a Clio but must have a good egg. Pulls way harder than a 172 I recently drove.

So there you have it. Loads of honest info but then I've had the car from 15k to 72k so I know every where it's been and everything it has done.

Worth about £2.5k with the body work issues resolved. Looking for a quick sale with minimal hassle. Fixed price of £1500 for car and parts left over like the bonnet and poly bushes.
