Productive day, Julian is a bit of a monster compared to me...he can lift a gearbox with one arm as if he's picking up his phone lol.

Lesson of today is. Put everything together and hire a damn crane lol. Although tbf the idea of sticking the engine in was Julian's at rather short notice and was a bit of a surprise

Yeah I REALLY wasn't ready which showed as my tools and parts where everywhere lol. I'm typically unorganised. From now on everything will be labelled, I hope when you do one of the mad plans your a bit more organised than I have been when I help lol

Well the fact we found your stanley knife under an engine head as I was leaving, I can believe it. Label the loom! I swear we spent more time trying to work that bundle of wires I suppose you could call a loom, and then didn't use it! Lets get yours up, running and reliable! That's the main challenge

Top work, a true pikey mechanic makes it happen regardless of tools

Could have taken the bumper rad and cross members out and layed the block on a trolly jack and pulled it out

Lol its those dust sheets, I lose tools in them all the time Julian. I lost a 10mm for about 3 weeks under a gearbox

Weather's good today...I'm supposed to be working tonight but I got excited and bolted the bottom gearbox mount and starter motor in, going back out after breakfast to crimp a new eyelet onto an alternator wire and then try and find my alternator bracket which I can't find, after that driveshafts in, plug everything In...add oil, fuel lines. And I think that's it

Don't forget to put that coolant pipe above the gearbox back on! And the rest of then obv :p

Yeah I know I've literally found everything now except that. The coil pack plug we found is the one that plugs into another 3 pin plug on the bracket. Trying to find the other one it's gone walkies. Nearly there already though

Also found another spring for the clutch arm if you want it next time I come round? Remember you said you didn't have one

I swear the guy is literally missing a coil plug. There's three next to eachother on the red one and this doesn't have one. I'm not in the right mind to peel back all this loom haha

Right. Had about 3 hours today before it got cold outside and I wussed out. Basically looks just like a GT should now

Alternator on with new eyelets crimped in

Had to cut a flange off the four branch I bought, some pictures tomorrow of that

Fitted the four branch

Fitted all the Air box and vac pipes

Fuel lines and all the wiring is done, ECU is also plugged up

Found that I wired two positives on the starter somehow so removed one lol

Had to crimp the indicators on to the plugs I already had, (This loom was extended for the mk2 indicators)

I cant really remember all that's been done today but all I have left id to connect the center pipe to the mani, Connect one driveshaft, chuck the valve cover gasket on and then fill it up with its fluids. After that I turn the key and pray! will do a video of the first start up attempt.

Once I know it runs well I will chuck a fan on and set up the gear selector so I can reach all five gears :)

Sorry Martin and everyone, Polo took a back seat for a little bit because of personal issues at home

Managed to get out yesterday though and connect the fuel pump wiring, nothing happens so I tested the fuel pump direct to the battery and still nothing, hoping the mk2 has a lift pump and if not I need to find one :)

I'm finding time to strip the red one between work and said issue. Someone is having the shell on here (I'll let them decide to spill the beans when they have it) and the engine is going to someone on here too. The body and shell needs too much money in welding and paint and panels etc. After what the 2F had to have spent on it, I'm not even thinking about it. And I'm not having a shabby ass mk2 in two different colours.

If the right mk2 comes up any time I have some money spare I'll probably grab it

Got some help arriving next week and I should Atleast have the blue one running by then.

In no great rush now it's all in and plumbed ready to go, boot needs painting after it runs and then it's strictly maintenance only till polo social :)
