Okay so car is back from paint

Had a bit of a nightmare with the wheels. They were advertised as 4x100 and iirc the bore was advertised as 57.1. Although. I couldn't have been mugged off more.

I've spent way too much and I'm skint now. So wheels for social will be tatty curbed melbers unless I can sort out these in time and have the tyres swapped over

Oh my I feel your pain nothing worse than spending good hard money on parts that are not correct or fit ..

Yeah I know :( gutted. Could have spent that money to refurbish the Rials instead or on Ross' ats classics he has for sale which are 6j. I should have got the caps off sooner to test fit them as it's too late for a PayPal money back job now. Best I can do is email the seller and if he doesn't co-operate contact my bank

Done the head gasket today...don't even think I took pictures but Julian did I think. I'm useless at that.

Seems to run as it should although it got hot quick. Possibly because of air in the system which all blurted out in one go later and also I haven't a thermostat in it atm.

Anyway just wheels and a thermostat then I am ready to roll up to the social :)

Nice turbo install

Well since doing the headgasket I've been doing little tidy up jobs on the breadvan. I slackened the cambelt which whined because it was a little tight. I sprayed the rials that I had and they are now on. Bit of a rush job so the paint is a bit awful really but I will have ats classics in a couple weeks so I'm not too fussed.

At least the wheels look okay from a distance

I also fitted the injector jackets that I had which silence them a bit and a fahrvenugen chipped ECU...if that's how I spell it :S

Seems to pick up revs a hell of a lot easier than it did before.

Also from the above picture you can see it sits a lot higher on these wheels. Shame lol

Its been polished and cleaned now and is looking pretty well for the social if you don't look too close to the wheels lol

Not just yet Kiran as funds are dangerously low atm. In fact I'm eating into my savings because of the costs to get it ready for the social. Haven't even got loom tape yet lol

A 270 will run fine. A 264 is fruity but civil and a 268 is good middle ground. All use the std pulley and tdc-1 is king

Gotta add, brilliant build really got serious recently

Thanks Kiran, tbh the whole GT thing might change next year for something a bit better. I think plans started to get more serious once I accepted what I have spent already lol

An interior retrim should be coming, different wheels, better cam and a few other bits before the next plan happens. Will be trying out a decal idea too at the social

Haha its just because everything I've done has been in this month lol paint and tyres was the main expense..

What I meant by change was a different engine. Hopefully for next year before the social but I think it needs something a bit meatier so I have a few ideas in mind

Well what a brilliant polo social that was! Had a great time which was made even better for the funny mishaps which happened!

On the way to social just 30 miles from the Destination something was up with the car, I called Julian on the CB to go in the next services..we got there and as soon as I turned left to come off the m1..A banging machine gun noise under the car. And a view in my left mirror of balls and bolts flying. Of course the inner CV wasn't tightened enough by yours truly! Wheel balancing wouldn't have helped either as it would appear the tyre shop didn't bother balancing them!

No worries as a quick phone call and of course the legend Scots sorted me with a driveshaft to be delivered to the show, then brought Ross' Driveshaft to get me there! And a massive thanks to Nige for the drive out to me!

Was running very Rich so had planned to use Stevens timing light on it, I didn't remind him and he left it at home but that's no issue for Steve. Timed it by ear easy as pie adjusting the idle to suit. Now runs brilliant and performance is much better than expected.

Anyway had a great time. Great seeing everyone and their cars, looking forward to next year!

Little updates. Decided to make a list so I can remember the little Jobs I have to do and keep forgetting about such as fitting the two bolts that were missing from my inlet manifold (one on each side) managed to find the correct bolts in a box full of parts so win.

Carbon canister was removed at the social, apparently does nothing and only SPI's have it standard. Also removed some crap vacuum tubing and replaced with some new stuff from Rob

Fitted some all red rear lights I bought from someone at the social too. Think they look lovely and I've picked up these wheels from Ross to put on at some point. Even have a spare I might paint a funny colour and stick on a roof rack :)

That last one is just the CB radio, will be keeping that in permanent. Also go the blank for under the headlight switches from Ross which I was missing:)

I haven't updated this in a while. Not much has happened other than me putting the ATS classics on that I got from Ross and I think they look great. I also bent one bumper mount up a bit so the front bumper sits straight on both sides now.

Going into work I ripped my exhaust off on a piece of metal that sticks up for the electric gate to close against. This damaged my rear hanger for the backbox so I've ordered a mk2 golf replacement to bolt in. Unfortunatley the exhaust is still very much a bodge job as it bent closed and I've had to bend it back. Plus all the flared ends took a beating too. It definitley needs replacing!

I have a leak now too, not sure if I've diagnosed it's location properly but I think it's the sump gasket so I'll be whipping that off soon. Might do CV boots and paint up the driveshaft too while I'm there :) and then I've ordered 25 meters of loom tape to tidy up the bay a bit.
