Hi guys,

Just wondering how much coolant the Polo 9N with the 1.2 AWY engine takes?

With the greatest of respect, please only state an amount if you are certain. I don't want to be caught out by air bubbles in the cooling system and then overheat on the first test drive haha.

Total capacity is 5.1 Litres according to Haynes but Autodata says 5.6L so you'll need at least 2.6l of G13 antifreeze

Did a bit of stalking expecting to find out you are a mechanic, but you are an ex-airline engineer. Very nice. How is it that the information is all at your fingertips? Do you have a stack of Haynes manuals and a copy of ElsaWin?

Also I noticed that you are my Dad's age. Dont all of the teenagers doing stupid things to their cars tick you off on these boards?

I think the most hilarious things I have seen include using adhesive floor tiles as roof lining, removing the rear view mirror to "save weight", numerous people with a "don't declare, don't crash" view on insurance - who then crash and have to repair their car on the hush hush, people removing their rear wipers without using water repellant, I recall someone getting a slammed Polo grounded on a speed hump, and someone replaced their Polo with a Golf because the boot on the Polo was too small, and then a few days later they had filled the Golf's boot up with speakers, and so on.........

Yep Elsawin is the best referance along with Autodata & Haynes but sometimes it comes down to years of experience :)

As i'm sure your Dad will tell you we did daft things in our time, just these days it's shared online and sometimes I do have to sit back and think "are they for real" then try and word an answer that won't offend Haha !

The daftest idea I have had concerning my car, came recently... When I decided that I'd fit the white wing instead of spraying it silver, so that my friends and I can write things and draw pictures on it in washable marker that will come off when it rains... And then I'll take it off and spray it when I get bored of that stupid novelty.

I used to have a copy of ElsaWin, but it was an old copy and I couldn't get it to work on Windows 7 so I gave up. I should probably buy a Haynes manual for my car come to think of it.

The latest version of Elsa (5.1 ?) is W7 compatable, it's just a right pain to install ( might be an age related problem Haha) The Haynes are OK for the basic stuff but on the newer cars they are very poor for the wiring diagrams

Well Dad has a 2001 A6 Avant and I have a 2002 Polo, he has no plans to change car, but I might either get a Polo 6N2 GTI or a 9N/3 Sport 100/105, so nothing too new on the cards.
