JMR Clubsport Polo GT Motorsport Cylinder Head **SOLD**

Featured Replies

Item Description

For sale I have my JMR Club Sport Polo GT 8 valve hydraulic cylinder head. Designed to produce enough flow to get well beyond 100bhp on a 1272cc bottom end. Brand new and never used. Whilst I can't provide a dyno print out for a car I have included graphs from the flow bench development work. I believe that breaking 110bhp would be possible on a single throttle with correct supporting mods (flows better than a 112bhp Golf head with lame cam). Over 120bhp with carbs/throttle bodies should be achievable.

Why sell? I bought a G40 whilst the head was getting developed and I'm happy to stick with it. Money is tight with a new house so building two engines is a little beyond my reach. I'd just love to see this installed on a GT. I don't think anyone has put this much time into a Polo cylinder head who isn't called Frank or Hans and it's sure to pay off.

This is something that you can't just pick off a shelf, a one off.

Casting

Originally fitted to Ross' Polo GT Coupe this head casting had covered about 100k miles and was in full working condition when removed. No cracks or distortion. Casting was cleaned, worked on, cleaned again, skimmed and cleaned once again before reassembly.

Seats/Valves

The seats have been cut with 3 angles in an attempt to improve flow at large valve openings. The lead in edge as been cut back in an attempt to de-shroud the valve during initial opening. This has a positive effect on low/mid-range. Valves cut accordingly with some material removed from back to aid flow. Lapped in at reassembly.

Porting

This is where the money was spent. Head was with Jason for over a year whilst he developed it. Working around keeping his Golf hillclimb customers happy he poured hours into porting and flow bench testing. This is not your average polish and port. Jason has used all of his extensive experience building 200bhp+ 8 valve hill-climbers to breath life into the Polo GT head. From the original ~55 cubic feet per minute Jason pulled out over 71CFM peak flow. That's an increase of approx. 30%! All of the time improvements were verified by more flow bench time. Graphs made during development are included below. Of course I've only spoke about peak flow increases but if you look at the graphs you'll see them nice and fattened through a variety of lifts.

This is not a quick port and polish. This not a CNC reproduction of another head casting.

Camshaft

Installed is a brand new Newman 270 degree shaft. This gives the most lift/duration on a GT without the concerns over piston/valve contact that you run into when going beyond 272. Newman describe the camshaft as 'a free revving camshaft which retains low down power.' Lift is 10.41 mm and duration is 270 degrees. There should be power between 2500-7000RPM...most of it up the top. This cam costs £180-210 depending on where you purchase new.

Tappets/Seals

All brand new of course and fitted by Jason during assembly.

GT Inlet Port Matched or Dblias 40mm DCOE Manifold

If I get the asking price I will include a port matched GT inlet manifold that Jason matched to this exact head before it was assembled. Worth £35-50 on it's own to a G40 owner. Hot dip tanked after so it's lovely and clean. Alternatively I will include a brand new DCOE twin 40mm manifold for Dbilas for only £100 extra. Retails at approx 200 euros :http://www.dbilas-shop.com/Products/Inlet-manifold/VW-VAG/Intake-manifold-for-VW-VAG-Polo-Golf-Audi-80-40mm-0-9-1-3-8V::6460.html

Replacement/Original Cost

To build this head again would cost a lot more than I paid for it and way more than I have it for sale for. The amount of time that went into it was huge. Original cost to me was £650 + postage both ways of all parts + tappets and seals..so prob. over £720.

Price

£500 collected from Aberdeen. Postage separate, will discuss which service/insurance you want to use. Currently packed and ready to go. I will deliver within 85 mile radius so that's down to Perth or up to Inverness. Yes it's a lot of money but then it's a serious modification with a lot of potential! Savings of at least £220! And remember that includes the port match GT inlet manifold or reduced price twin 40 DCOE manifold.

Payment and Communication

PayPal or Bank Transfer. Buyer to cover fees if any incurred.

71CMF achieved. 70.6CFM at .300" lift and 70.5CFM and .500" lift. To get this figure was a lot of hard detail work, making small gains with each modification. As always there is a graph to accompany the news! Look at the difference between the largest line and the smallest...looks good to me! The dip nearer the highest lifts is caused by turbulence. It's only knocking off 4CFM which as a percentage is quite small...of course we wanted it as good as we could get it so Jason worked it out before completion.

If you want any extra info let me know. Like wise if you have a cam already and you don't want this one we can come to an arrangement. Likewise if you have an inlet and don't need one we can work out deal on postage.

Postage will depend on how you want it sent/insured etc. I'll let buyer pick the service and work around that. I'm AB12 5EL if that helps.

how much is just the head ?

I've got people interested in head and cam just now, so it's most likely to go together. I've said to anyone else not wanting cam it's -£100 and I'll sell it separate. Seems silly to split the pair as it's a nice cam for the modifications.
