I've just plugged my diagnostic machine into my 2001 Gti and it's coming up with code: 16685 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

The car runs fine, but there's a lack of pull in anything other than 1st.

I don't really know what to do, any help much appreciated!

Delete the code then run the car for a week and then rescan, as the code might of been there for a while

Deleted the codes and nothing's come back as yet. But it's really lacking punch in 2nd/3rd/4th.

I'll run it for a few more days and see.

When did it last have a full proper service?

Is it the right gearbox? Etg or ffw should be fitted. Defo do a service on it. Plugs fuel and air. Fuel filter is by the fuel tank btw.

The codes haven't come back but its a bit juddery, more so when it rains.

It's not long had a service. Should I put new HT leads on?

Yes.

If that doesn't work change spark plugs.

Its running ok now - no jerking like before and no codes.

But....

Is it normal for the car to slightly kangaroo when moving slowly forward in traffic queues? I've had cars do this before...they don't like crawling

If you haven't done so already, clean the throttle body with some spray carb cleaner and an old toothbrush, also pull the MAP sensor out of the inlet manifold ( drivers side end) two torx screws & don't loose the "O" ring give that a spray clean with the carb cleaner as well (no toothbrush !) This might help with the kangarooing but the drive by wire system of the throttle does seem to be poor under some throttle loads, my Ibiza uses the same setup and it also kangaroos under light throttle at times
