I managed to get the old alternator out But I can't for the life of me get the new one back onto the bracket. I tried hammering it a bit But It's hard to get a good angle and if I had continued I would have caused some damage.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Does the new alternator happen to have a sleeve in one of the mounting holes?

If so, you need to move this to a position that will fit your engine bracket.

This is is exactly the same as mine. The thing with the arrow pointing to doesn't look adjustable.

I'm pretty sure that sleeve part does move, you would need to put something over the sleeve like a socket then rest that side against something solid and hit it through with a bar and hammer. It only needs to move a few mm then when you tighten the bolt it moves back and holds it steady.

It is adjustable. Lube it up and do as caretaker said.

My problem was that I had very limited space and No work bench/vice to support it while I hammered it. I had a look around and found this method Which worked extremely well.
