I'm in need of some help to diagnose a problem with my car.

The last month or so their has been a squeaking noise coming from the front end of my car, It only happens when the roads are wet. The squeaking happens when i go over speed bumps and when I power on and power off the accelerator, but only when its wet

Anyone else experienced this? I'm told it could be bushes but how do i know which ones? Could it be an engine mount?

My car is a 2008 1.4 tdi Polo.

I would think it UNLIKELY to be from suspension bushes etc, as water may act as a lubricant and actually quiten any that squeak when dry.

If the sqeak sounds to be 'rotational' ( as from something that is rotating), yres could be the culprit, as could the auxilliary drive belt.

To eliminate the chance that it is from the brakes, try applying them and see if the sound changes.

If it is intermitant, try turning 'off' the wipers - worn blades may tend to squeak.

It is definitely not the tyres as i had 4 new ones fitted about 3 months ago, Its also definitely not the wipers as the sound is coming from under the car? sounds like its below the drivers seat? Only happens when going over bumps or when i put on and let off on the accelerator quickly (when the car jerks quickly)

Chances are that the front rear bushes are worn, if you have never had them changed they are probably shagged. It's a very common fail point on these cars.

A friend pointed this out when ours was less the. A year old just by looking at it from the side, he put his foot on the rear side of the tyre and pushed it and the tyre moved forward about an inch :0

So well worth checking as it will no doubt eat through your new tyres in no time at all.

This is what i thought it probably was as i also had this problem on a 2007 seat ibiza i used to own, replaced all front wishbone bushes, drop links and ARB bushes and it cured all knocking noises straight away. just wanted to be sure!
