Hi guys,

Soon I will be starting my driving lessons and as a first car I will be getting a Mk2 polo cl 1.3, 1993, however i have seen one that looks pretty clean has everything that I want but has two problems with it. The oil temperature gauge doesn't work and the mileage is 115,000, three owners since new. I was just looking for advice at how easy it is to fix the temperature gauge and if the mileage is too high for a first car. Bearing in mind i will be only using it 7,000 miles ayear for maybe two or three years.

Not sure personally on the temperature gauge, but don't be put off by the 115k. For a VW (so long as it's been looked after) that's hardly anything. There are typical age related signs to look out for, like checking the head gasket's been done in the past but generally that sort of mileage should be okay. :) ALWAYS check the oil cap for creamy mess when looking at a 20+ year old VW, means the head gasket has gone, I almost landed myself in a heap of trouble by not doing that.

As said the mileage shouldn't be anything to put you off, There is no OIL temp gauge on a standard model, but if it's the water temp gauge ?? it'll either be the sensor on the engine or the gauge, if the fuel gauge is working OK then it's more likely to be the sensor and that's under a tenner for a replacement and a simple DIY job to replace

Thankyou, and i did check the oil cap and there was no creamyness or milky coloured marks, and it may be the water temperature gauge then lol and yeah the feul gauge worked perfectly. I don't think I will be put off by the mileage, I am glad to hear that the mileage isn't a bad sign :) thanks guys

I am into the whole modding scene and am really looking to lower it, and put a nice bodykit on it, however i can't seem to find anywere that does good bodykits for them, i looked on body-kit.co.uk but they only do individual body parts i.e bumpers and side skirts, not a set body kit. If you guys could help me for future references it would be really appreciated. Thanks :)

Unless you've got your heart set on it, don't go for a body kit. They mostly just look a bit tacky and the Mk2f is beautiful.
