Ebay description: Reluctant sale. This was my wonderful and very reliable commuter car until two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the engine failed whilst I was on the motorway and I had to be towed back to a local VW garage. Their verdict is that the timing belt slipped damaging all four exhaust valves. They have quoted £600 for a complete repair (including all four exhaust valves plus new timing belt and water pump). I can't afford the repair hence my reluctant listing.

One week prior to the towing incident (and by strange coincidence), the vehicle had been in at the same VW garage. I paid £400 to resolve a recurring cold start problem - the garage fitted a new automatic choke unit into the carburetor (apparently completely unrelated to the subsequent timing belt problem and in quite separate locations under the bonnet). The problem has been resolved BUT the carburetor WILL need fine tuning. The garage assure me that the work is under warranty and promise to honour this arrangement for the new owner.
Otherwise in very good condition for a car of this age, some rust but it's not out of control by any means. I've put a lot of work into maintaining her cosmetically. Other known issues; no functioning sound-system, at least one tyre needs to be replaced. I purchased the vehicle in the Spring for £400 and have subsequently spent over £900 on parts and labour (inc. MOT, full service, air and oil filters, alternator belt, door trims, tyres, choke unit, bulbs etc...). The car has otherwise behaved very well. Frequent long journeys with no problems. Very quick off the blocks for a 1.0 litre engine and she's a looker. Full paperwork and service history included in purchase as well as a haynes manual.
ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY STARTING. IT'S BEING LOOKED AFTER BY A GARAGE IN WILTSHIRE. ON WINNING THIS AUCTION YOU WILL NEED TO EITHER COMMISSION THE GARAGE TO REPAIR (I HAVE BEEN QUOTED £600) OR ARRANGE TO HAVE IT TOWED AWAY.
Any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Cheers!
