Suspension: Lowered 60mm allround on FK AK springs and shocks, Powerflex bumpstops allround, G40 track control arms with Powerflex outer bushes, G40 steering arms, GT steering damper, G40 rear axle (with rear ARB), OMP upper rear strut brace, Ged McConville front lower brace, Weichers Sport front lower TCA brace and G40 cup car style nylon anti-roll bar clamps.

Brakes: Full Polo G40 vented 239mm set-up with Brembo discs and EBC Greenstuff pads, ATE Racing blue high boiling point brake fluid with Goodridge braided hoses allround.

Wheels and Tyres: 13 x 6 BBS RAs with black detailing and a polished rim, shod in 175/50 Yokohama A539 rubber for the summer months and GT steels with trims for the winter.

Exterior Styling: 3/4 colour coded bumpers with red trim tape, BMW E30 air intake, colour-coded mirrors and boot spoiler, GT/G40 arch and sill trims, GT/G40 number plate trim foil, black VW badging, de-locked, clear indicators, smoked side repeators, tinted headlights with 8k HIDs, euro foglight rear cluster, bonnet lifters, All Smiles CF scuttle cover, polished Mark4 Polo rocker cover (big up Yoof Tuning).

ICE and Security: Sony MiniDisc headunit powering: 2 Infinity Kappa 3.5" dash speakers and 2 Infinity Reference 6x9s in false floor. Security courtesy of an Avital Maxx1 Cat1 alarm/immobiliser.

Comments: I thought I'd update this a bit as I approach my 7th year of ownership. With the Mark2 now on the road (see here), it means I can have longer downtime on this to sort things I've wanted to do for a while. There won't be many big changes, just general tidying up, with a future colour-change planned.

Sweet car this, what are your wheel plans?

I'm hoping to fit some BBS RAs (13x6 ET33) with a polished lip on there. Get them shod in some 175/50 rubber and get some 20mm bolt on spacers to bring the rear out a little.

I like your car - the only thing that goes through my head, however, is how pitch black wheels like those tend to play tricks on my head, as if the car doesn't have any wheels at all.

As hard as it is to show the car with the steels in pictures, its a look that has grown on me. I wasn't setting out to go for the sleeper look, nor will I be calling it a sleeper! I just needed some cheap and cheerful wheels with lower profile tyres that I could stick on when I got the car lowered.

I might get them professionally refurbed in the current colour, but then again they will only be relegated to winter wheels when I have my tyres sorted for the new wheels, so mightn't be worth it to have them covered in brake dust, salt and grime.

Ah, I see youve got the wheels now then. When I was round at Si's he showed em me and I was very tempted too. But then I've got too many wheels. Its gonna look sweet when they're on - I'm not a big fan of the whole white car/black wheels thing. If I were you, Id whack some GT wheeltrims on. I guess it doesnt really matter though. :-D

Did think about some GT wheel trims at one point, but then decided I'd be too worried about curbing them, and with them being silver it means one more thing to clean... Atleast with black steels brake dust isn't too noticeable That and I've already got some centre caps and nut covers on.

Like I said, they're going to be relegated to winter wheels when I can get some tyres sorted. I can't wait :-)

Looking good Karl, set of nice alloys will set it of a treat, seems like the only thing missing at the min. I reckon a hidden exhaust would look good to.

How are you finding the power hike?

The manifold is a Raceland one originally for Polo G40 from ebay. A few of the G40 boys have reported problems regarding fitment (mainly clearance issues or distortion), but got very lucky with mine on the GT.

As for the power hike, I'm really liking it. Didn't take too much to get used to it, and love the virtually instantaneous response, and the pull pretty much up to the redline (though haven't really had need to take it that high yet). The SPi Was a little bit laggy in terms of throttle response and above 3500rpm you didnt get much more than noise.

I'm hoping for around 90bhp at the Club G40 RR day (since added a ported dewedged throttle body since the conversion for further improved throttle response).

Theres more still to come, and I have a few more ideas for when time and money allows. Theres basically two routes I can go down for next year, and thats looks, or the engine. We'll see how things pan out I guess. :-)
