Hi, it's a 2001 on a y reg, just got a small problem, when it first started it revs slightly on its own? Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome, on an unrelated note, the Stoke accent is definitely the best-sounding accent I've ever heard

My polo would rev on its own and accellerate/decellerate at random even when I was applying consistent pressure to the gas. The problem turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor - basically I unplugged it and the car started working fine, so I just replaced the thermostat and have had no further problems. Might be worth trying
