been looking into finding some bigger calipers for the front of my mk2. had no joy

can anyone recommend any other calipers than g40's

saw a g40 running willwood calipers but cant seem to find them anywhere.

however they are probably overkill unless your are running loads of power and tracking it.

You could use vauxhall calipers and run 256mm discs

thanks guys, the sort time i drop my polo the brakes were embarrassing, i agree that it will be over kill as only be putting 110bhp ish but mainly for piece of mind and as all the front end is coming out now i might awsell upgrade as much as i can where i can. and for some aesthetics as I'm a tart like that :)

also I'm not clued up on what is the same as other models and what and be swapped, I'm assuming the willwood capliers for the mk2 golf also fit a polo? thanks :)

its the mk1 golf and you normally have to run 14 inch wheels for them to fit under.

Do you know which brakes you currently have, What year is your mk2?

I run the G40 set up on both my 130bhp and now my 150bhp 16v on road and track and as long as you have decent pads and fluid they are fine :)

If you do want to go bigger then the vauxhall calipers (or the very rare Audi setup) and run 256mm discs

its a 88 mk2 coupe s, I've not had it long not hardly looked at the brakes, and I'm not that well clued up on brakes as my job dosnt require them boats D: ,any tips and trick would be a great help :) thanks for your help

Well you have VWI fitted rather than the even more shocking 'postage stamp' ones. However the VWI are still shocking compared to modern brakes but they do work and you kinda get used to them.

VWII (G40's) are the same brakes but run vented disks so are less prone to brake fade. Personally G40's with some decent pads (I run DS2500's) and some decent fluid will work wonders and allows you to keep 13 inch wheels. However you could probably get vauxhall 256mm set up for the same cost but does require more thought and some 14's

the vw11 are also from mk2 golfs am i correct? i have some for my rear disc conversion from a golf. yeah my 9n polo has disc all round as the brakes are insanely over rated for the car so crap feeling brakes dont fill me with confidence.

g40 or vw11 brakes are found on the mk2 golfs and some 6n polos ran them i believe however wether these fit or not is beyond me the vw11 brakes are fine to stop with however running a mk2 you dont have a brake servo and so they feel rather unimpressive, i personally use the vw11 brakes with my mk3 as i was forever getting brake fade with the vw1, I've also used the early brakes before and let me tell you they would leave you with very brown trousers with any power, the vw11 brake caliper can also be used with the vw1 carrier this way you can use far more wheel choices than if you use a vw11 setup with g40 carriers as mark says a decent brake disk/pad/fluid combo should see you stopping with ease on vw11 brakes however should you feel the need for overkill then there are the 256mm vauxhall brakes or the wilwoods the latter however will set you back a fair few quid
