'Peggy' the MK2f polo coupe - OEM+

Featured Replies

Really you need a whole day to do suspension on a mk3, especially if you have never had anything off before and you're doing the work outside on a drive.

Just take your time, do it once and do it right. You'll be happier with yourself and the car for it.

Seats look really good though.

I doubt you'll find a new set cheaper than PPP on here. I'd recommend you get them for 2 reasons 1. because you are lowering the car, these blocks correct the castor angle 2. the ARB will more than l

Yeah. I just got really f#ck#d off with the whole thing today. Also realised the wings are shot. Thought I could repair them but looking like new set are needed. Really am Wondering why I'm downgrading from 200bhp Audi to rusty polo? Mid life crisis? ;)

I guarantee you'll have twice as much fun in the polo, it feels likes its doing twice the speed on the speedo haha!

got the famous headgasket oil leak above the alternator too

its called 'character'

Peggy's Deffo got 'character' by the bucket load! And now only has 3 wheels! Gonna try doing the suspension again next weekend. Think I'm gonna have to declare her SORN as I can't get insurance till the Audi sells and Peggy can't be driven till suspension is done.

New wings are easy to get hold of unless you wanted them to come in white you'll obviously have to search about classifieds a lot, suspension is a major pain in the arse on these, ended up nearly three full days till mine was done. The oil leak might be from an oil seal or front/back of rocker cover, as the engine is obviously tilted forwards the oil can come down and around the rim where the head meets the block and onto the alternator making it look like a hg leak ,

Looks good anyway and you have the parts to make it a right gem lol don't lose motivation

Chees bud. Yeah just had a bad day yesterday. Hoping someone near ipswich has some wings. Not worried about a bit of oil atm, next thing that needs replacing is the thermostat housing, as I'm losing coolant from there.

Right. After a few days to chill. I'm ready to get stuck into Peggy again (that sounds a bit wrong!) ;)

Ordered a blue temp sensor, thermostat housing and gasket.

Hopefully gonna get the suspension done and wiper motor replaced. Also might get round to wiring the invertor to power the backlit gauges. Then just need to put in rear seats, wire up amp and sub and sort out the rattling exhaust. Hmmm quite a list there! And that's not even including the rust! ;)

  • Author

Just wondering if this might solve the exhaust prob. It's currently rattling where the c-clamp is touching the cross member. Anyone tried one of these Mikalor clamps?

So finally got my V5c from DVLA, and decided that as I haven't sold the Audi yet, I'd SORN Peggy. Takes the pressure off for getting her fixed up (tho I really wanna get her sorted ASAP.)

Anyone want an Audi?..... ;)

Also downloaded a speedo app, as since I've swapped the needles on the speedo I think I've cocked up the calibration, so wanted something to stop me getting speeding tickets! (Plus white dials are in KpH)

Seems really good for free app, allows you to preset speed limits to warn you if your going over :-)

Seems handy, what's the app called?

  • Author

Think it's just called speedometer. It's free on iTunes App Store. It's even got heads up display feature (makes it full screen and reverses everything) so u can lay phone on dash below window at night (not sure how the police would feel about that tho!) ;)

Think it must just be ios. I found a free one on Android that seems to be decent though. Will be interesting to see how far my Speedo is out!

Love that dash though! Be on the hunt for one of those when I've got the Golf.

I was surprised to find out, when i switched from 155/70/13 to 185/55/14 my speedo was of by about 3 km/h at around 110 km/h

With my 13 inch rims it was like 7/8 km of.

topspeed (154 km/h @ gps) on the dial is 161.

I think if peggy is fitted with her tyres and rims, she will be exactly spot on, if it werent for her owner who f#@*ed up her dials, the heartless c*nt...:lol::air_kiss:

just teasing, i reccon anyone driving a little polo and enjoying it, doesnt suffer from a overinflated ego, so my experience is, they can handle a joke.

Little Peggy update. She's looking a little 'down' after being left on 3 wheels, so popped across and quickly fitted new rear seats

And investigated the exhaust knocking. Think I've solved the problem, looks like the crossmember needs swapping around 180 degrees as the cut out seems lower on the left

Also rear box is hanging low, so new tighter rubbers and bit of jiggling needed

Also found this in the shed from my old mk2f if anyone wants it for a £10 collected from Ipswich. All clips intact too
