So a bit more done. Managed to get the other old shock and springs out. That old fluid stinks! Think I possible broke a rib doing it tho?! Got a bit miffed while using a 4ft solid metal bar to get old doing out (spring compressors would fit in the turret!)

Only bad thing is that I may have cross threaded the strut cap?! D'oh! Left it now till 2mrw.

Oh and decided to swap the rear seat covers over onto the original frames, as the old grey ones are in much better nick (paint isn't all scratched up :-)

Oh and my 16 month old daughter tried out the new seats! :-)

Poland + backlit heater dials arrived, and the new (old) wiper motor. So busy weekend!!!!

So had a good day on Peggy today new wiper motor has sorted that problem :-)

Then the rears. Which have ended up crazy low! So low that I can't really drive it cause its scrubbing assumed the middle setting on the shock was 40mm, as it was a 60/40 kit, but must be at least 60mm. Gonna have to go up to prob the top notch next weekend (oh and before anyone says it I know the spring plate is on upside down!)

Think the shocks were the original ones from factory too! Done well for 94k!

Wish I had got a pic of the exhaust touching the driveway while backing in, think the neighbours wondered what the scraping/grinding noise was!

Just outta interest, has anyone else had the TA Technix 60/40 kit and know which notch is which height on the rears?

Needs to go lower... haha only joking. I think new wings would be a good idea, as they are quite thin so once you take all the rust back you might not have much left.

As for the notches I'm sure the bottom notch is -80mm then they go up in 10mm stages after that.

I made the same mistake when lowering the mk2.

Yeah one wing has a hole already and metal looks less than 1mm thick! Found pattern wings for £45 each delivered. Not sure how well they'll fit tho?

Would you not be cheaper getting 2 clean genuine 2nd hand ones and getting them painted?

there's no harm in sanding and painting those ones first, and then replace them in a few months time if the rust comes back

Yeah think the left one would be ok to do that, but the drivers one is too far gone. It's just the pInt holding it together, accidentally put my finger through it!

Tbh I don't think so. Can't seem to find any locally (Ipswich) and ones o have found by the time you add P&P cost way more than the patern parts. Plus I can spray these and fit them straight away. If anyone has a set of wings near Ipswich let me know

Oooh, just found these! £35 ain't bad per wing :-)

I've heard bad things of non gen wings, unless its going to a body shop. i think second hand genuine is a much better fit but upto you prob be fine

also be warned the 3 bolts at the rear of the wing (on the inside) will be coveved in sealant, blow torch might help or a scraper,

also i have the same rear shocks i think bottom is 80mm they do go quite low haha.

Blow torch is your best bet. Just don't go setting fire to the car!

No disrespect meant, but I really don't understand why you bother with such trashed and/or worn out cars.

Why not start with something which doesn't need to have most of the parts replaced, repaired or refurbished?

Lol, no disrespect taken was a cheap motor with a years MOT. Just kinda fell in love with it I guess. Couldn't see it scrapped, had to save it

Well last delivery of stuff. Thermostat housing, blue temp sensor and spare thermostat seal ring.

Plans this weekend :-

1- raise rear suspension to top notch

2- fit thermo housing and blue temp sensor

3- fit gear shifter repair kit (so I don't keep selecting 1st instead of reverse!)

4- wire up invertor for backlit dials

5- sort out exhaust banging

6- rust treatment!!!!

7- swap seat covers over

8- wire up sub & amp

9- sort out flat spot at low revs (idle & CO2 screws and poss advance ignition now I've got 4branch.)

10-tracking!

11- lube up mirror adjusters

12- tweak front speaker covers

13- more degreasing in engine bay

14- paint rocker cover

So not much then
