I doubt you'll find a new set cheaper than PPP on here. I'd recommend you get them for 2 reasons 1. because you are lowering the car, these blocks correct the castor angle 2. the ARB will more than l

Bugger! Thought I'd got a bargain! ;-(

I'm really shocked that you are bothering to save that old rust bucket. There will be a lot of grinding, repairing, and spraying to be done in order to prevent it turning into a pile of rust. :D

I hope you deliver, OP. Show me that you aren't mental. 8>)

Oh another thing, have you tried putting it in 5th? Might have the wrong gearknob!

Old rust bucket, how very dare you! ;) lol!

Yeah my wife thinks the same, but checked previous MOT and no advisorys, looks rock solid underneath too. Has a new fuel tank so no rusty filler neck, and new dissy and clutch, so taking a punt on it ;) hoping i can save another retro dub from the scrappers! ;)

  • Author

Ain't tried it in 5th actually?.... Will do this and find out for sure. Pretty certain she's a 4 speed tho ;) and yes I think I might be mental doing this polo, but meh, it keeps me happy ;) he he he he!

Going by the gearbox mount in the pictures it is a 4 speed. Does seem odd for them to put a 4 speed on a 1.3 mpi though.

Also don't listen to all the haters saying it is a rust bucket and not worth saving. If you find all the rust and treat it properly, as well as preventing it from appearing anywhere else then the car will last you a long time. Best getting it done sooner rather than later then you can spend more money on the things you want to.

Lol yeah, gonna do rust first, then the 1st weekend I have it :-

- clear indicators,

- BBS wheels,

- TA Technix 60/40 suspension,

- GT steering wheel,

- GT clocks,

- bluetooth stereo

- Sub and amp

All of the above I've already got/ordered, then the following if funds allow:-

- Jetex exhaust (had one on my previous mk2f and liked the fact it wasn't crazy loud)

- Chip from Germany

- stainless 4 branch

- GT cam

- GT seats

- smoked rear lights

- uprated 6x4 speakers in original position

- uprated 8cm front speakers

That should be it ;)

So got the old tyres taken off the rims and cracked out the old power drill with wire brushes. Pretty chuffed! Was so much quicker and thorough than hand sanding. Just done the initial wire brush so far on this rim, but comparing it to the old one (right) it looks pretty darn good!

And the next stage, course, medium, fine and wet n dry paper then plenty of autosol! Not perfect (for the concours "scene" wheel whores) but good enough for me! ;)

Oh and other untreated wheel for comparison! ;)

Just need to spray the centre with some Hammerstein smooth silver straight to metal paint ;)

I'm not really a hater, my comment about it being a "rust bucket" was a little tongue in cheek.

I've seen people save cars far far worse than this, and good on them.

Oh, and I think the wheels would look fantastic in mid to dark grey.

Just bought these to safely fit my BBS's as they need about 40mm thread due to the amount of metal on the wheels

not bad for just over £8 delivered

Looks like you've got a good plan in the making! personally think standard silver for the wheels or the white centres (Y) Btw I have a gt cam and gt double valve springs if you're interested ;)

So here's the possible exhaust I might be picking up. Very similar to my old Jetex one I had on my last mk2f coupe

I'm very impressed with the kit, it's got adjustment at the rear and looks to be well painted. Hope it rides well?....anyone got any feedback from using this kit? (60/40)

I'm also shocked at the price, ordered from eBay Germany and got it for £97 delivered to my door! Wow! Thought I may get stung by import taxes, but nothing so far (fingers crossed!). Can't wait till jan now to get the car......about 4/5 weeks now then the project really begins ;)

For that price I imagine the suspension will be absolutely appalling, but who knows...

That is even less than FK / JOM stuff, and they are well known for being awful. :-(

I guess it depends on what you expect them to be like. The car will sit nice and low, but I'd expect the ride to be a bit bouncy and crashy and nowhere near as comfy as the well-worn-out OEM suspension. But if that was already your assumption, you're all good!

Ha ha, yeah it's prob gonna be a bit crap, I've got AP's on my Audi and Koni adjustables on my mk4 golf, so might take a bit of getting used to, but I figure for cheap lows, under a ton ain't bad for a 60mm slam ;)

Just been doing a bit more to the RA's. Got the valves out (courtesy of my wife's kitchen scissors!, ooops!) and did a re-sand and masking on the first wheel. Hopefully I'll get the centre primered and sprayed at the weekend, then only another 3 to go!

Not exactly show standard, but should be way better than when I got em! ;)

Never known someone to get so excited about TA Technix suspension!

Can't complain for £97 quid though. Recommend new top mounts (Pete G40 on here) and may as well replace TCA's too whilst you're down there.
