That's why everyone needs a spare room. The spare room in my house is full of boxes of Polo bits, I can still have guests over though, they just need to cuddle up to a stage 2 subframe and use my collection of wiring looms for a duvet haha.

I'm sure she'll go a-lot better than that. My Polo has 54HP and the top speed is supposed to be about 93, but I've had it at 110...

I would imagine kids are good if trained correctly as they can get their hands in all of those tight spaces! :)

Would be an awesome chance to see how well she does a long road trip (four gears ain't gonna help fuel consumption tho!) I've always wanted to go, but every year I have to cancel. You don't need a 5spd mechanism, you only need to rotate the 4 speed cage around a little on the end of the shaft, or you could try removing the rubber strip on the left of the recess in the central tunnel under the gaiter to give you more left hand movement

Aha! Good to know that. Just need to look at the ratios of different boxes to see what will have nice long gears for cruising I know the GT ones are short ratios

You'll be looking for an 8p gearbox or something with similar ratios. I have a 'box which is apparently out of a 2001 Ibiza in my GT/G40 and that has quite long gears.

Really all you need to fit it is the 'box itself and a 5 speed gearbox side mount.

Are you any closer to getting the car yet? 7 pages of build thread and no car, looking forward to seeing the transformation.
