I doubt you'll find a new set cheaper than PPP on here. I'd recommend you get them for 2 reasons 1. because you are lowering the car, these blocks correct the castor angle 2. the ARB will more than l

Lol! Taken long enough hasn't it ;) yeah accelerator cable, heater issue, then rust (in that order so Peggy doesn't try and kill me!, was a tad dicey last night on drive home, kept getting stuck down!) ;)

i should have a spare cl throttle cable. look forward to seeing the transfrmation, i hade a white cl in the same condition as yours. tatty body utterly mint interior and engine

Forgive me, but I was expecting a minter.

Why did you wait so long for this car particularly? It's not like there aren't plenty of Mk3 Polos for sale

does look a bit rough on the outside , might be worth a good look underneath or even a fresh mot to make sure its not like a teabag underneath

Looking at the temp gauge, assuming the engine was up to temp then i'd say it needs a new thermostat. Engine should sit at circa 90 deg when up to temp.

I don't get the negative questions regarding the rust... In all honesty, this could be v tidy with a nice satin white paint job!

Just a bit of a project, plus i knew the owner....... and its got MOT till Jan 2016, and reciepts for well over £1000 for recent clutch, fueltank, Distributor etc etc, and i wanted to have one with the NZ Multipoint engine , as they're a bit of an oddball and a bit different lol!

and for £200 i though why not (was never gonna be a miinter for that price) ;) ha ha ha

Yeah, temp gauge was just below 70, and fan kicked in when i got home, so poss thermostat, coolant flush, and maybe temp sensor needs changing too?.... I'll add that to my list :-

Accelerator cable (fisrt thing as a tad dangerous at ATM!)

Thermostat

Temp sensor

Coolant flush

99 relay to fix wipers on working on full speed

RUST!

I see, then it's a perfect car for what you want then. £200 with best part of a year MOT is pretty good

If u have got one mate i 'll grab it off you asap cause its more than a bit dodgy ATM

I'm guessing the fan kicked in when she was stationary? Also, I bet the fucked throttle cable led to the bent front panel!

Yeah think it did?..... hope the ding in the front isn't related to the throttle! ;) gonna have a look tonight if i get a chance

Signs of a thermostat stuck open means that when stationary the coolant will heat up as normal and set the fan off at the desired temp however the car will fail to heat up when driving due top the 'stat staying open.

Forgive me if my first comment about the rust came across insulting, that wasn't my intention! I'd love a mk3 to work on as a project. My 6n is my daily and that's got rust that I'm yet to treat, so I couldn't have meant it as an insult if I tried.

you just cant handle the embarrasment of driving a 6n.

So you take it out on a 86c owner.

it's okay, we 86c drivers are used to the jealousy, let it all out, it's okay :tongue::smile::D:D

If there had been any good 86c's for sale in Cornwall when I was buying I'd have pounced on them. There were two, both 1l, both utter dogs, both with blown headgaskets and 17 year old owners who clearly ragged them into the ground.

The ones I went to view definitely weren't winners! If I'd been better off financiAlly I'd have bought one anyway and rescued it!

Cool! Got all of sunday to work on polo as wife is at work, so heading to mums driveway so she can look after our daughter while I tinker outside :-)

Gonna try and sort acc cable and temp gauge first, then if time fit suspension and Arb blocks. And stereo/amp/sub/front speakers, clear indicators, seats etc ;)

And sort out slightly 'loose' shifting with a repair kit ;)
