gotta ask, are you keeping the paintjob?

  • Author

Haha, I've been waiting for someone to ask that. No, I'm thinking red oxide for now. Possibly plastidip in the future.

Keep the paintjob!

  • Author

Might have to put it to a vote lol

Keep it for at least a show season. I like it, but then again I do own a harlequin

A good thing is if you scrape a wall and scratch it all you can just say ''That's not a scrape. It's a tear in the space time continuum!'' and stone chips are just the birth of another star!

Thats exactly what I'm going for. Nice one mate

That looks really nice, not usually a fan of airbrushed cars either! Can you post the picture up that's in your thumbnail of the other side please?

I've de-wipered the rear since, gold minilites are going on this weekend hopefully. I've started stripping the AFH engine ready to fit the parts from this engine that I need. CBR600 carbs are on their way and lows will be ordered very soon!!!

Its gonna be a busy winter but want it roadworthy ready for next show season :D

Oh my god I love it! Back's better than the front. I say lower it, put the minilights on it and AFH it then shock people at santa pod

Then if you don't like it can always spray it. It's definitely going to be a Marmite car but then again my Harlequin is and VW made that.

That's definitely the plan mate. Might go to the extent of changing the cams then with the carbs I'm aiming for somewhere around 125-150bhp. Will certainly surprise the kids round my way!!! I've been doing a lot of reading on the cams, it seems the Piper regrinds are about my budget but will they make much of a difference horsepower wise or is it all about the sound and torque? I've also seen that people only change the inlet cam. I found a site doing fast road cams that were brand new units with decent lift & duration for about £250 but can't find the bloody website again!!! :x

So put the Superlights on today. Need to clean off all the glue from previous weights and possible get them balanced again as the tyre guy has put the weights on the outside dish. I dont know anything about balancing but thought they'd be on the back???

Anyway, here's some pics

As you can see I desperately need lows, but with the help of a few stone stood on the front bumper.....

At the mo I think I could only comfortably fit lowering springs & shocks on the front, probably -80mm as it doesnt take much for rear arch to hit tyre. So either a bit of ghetto flaring on the rear or mk2 Golf arches welded in although I have no idea how much that would cost to get done. Anyone done this that can tell me?

What do we think?

Cams are expensive was looking for when I do my conversion next year. Most people seem to fit the 1.6 16v block with a 1.4 16v head.

Wheels suit it! You have to ask for balancers on the back. But what fucking idiot would put balancers on the front of dished wheels? :unknw:

Think you'll only need springs because breadvans have trouble with going low on the back with decent width wheels on.

Agreed, cams are alot for the increase you actually get and perhaps still too much even for the great noise. I think the bike carbs and can will give a good enough noise tbf!

I think I'll fit the fronts for now and the rears once I've fitted Golf arches.

So coming soon....

Golf mk1 small chin spoiler

10" steering wheel

Washer bottle moved to boot

More to come soon.....engine out!!!

It's starting to look better. Consider a black rear bumper to match the front?

Unfortunately you're not going to get very low on those wheels without modifying your arches a fair bit.

I'm probably going to get mk2 Golf rear arches welded in like this:

polosquare_zps8d89b8f6.jpg

And yes either going black bumper or no bumper, haven't decided yet

Stick with the bumper. If you remove it you'le see there are all sorts of pressed shapes etc. behind it that look messy. and chrome bumpers are too small as well.

Golf arches look greatif done properly. How will you match the paint work though?

I'll either blend it in with matt black or redo the whole car one colour (I have some powder for Plastidipping still)

Keep the paint it looks great with the minilights

Keep the paint!

It'd be a crime to change that paint! Would be like doing a harlequin all one colour.

I think the fitment's fine
